Trees In Newcastle

Trees In Newcastle is a not for profit, community organisation focusing on the region's biodiversity.

Trees In Newcastle-TIN was born in 1989 from the passion of a few people who wanted to plant 'more trees in Newcastle'. Since then TIN has grown to become a volunteer & education centre and provider of bush regeneration services. The organisation relocated to Belmont Wetlands State Park in June 2017. We continue to provide volunteer opportunities and bush regeneration services.

The lovely Pultenaea daphnoides, is flowering now at the TIN Nursery! 💛

This beautiful, upright shrub grows to around 2–3m high and 1m wide, making it a great choice for a feature plant or small screen.

☀️ Happy in full sun to dappled shade
🌱 Prefers well drained soil, but isn’t too fussy
🪴 Can even be grown successfully in pots
🐝Great for Pollinators

Transitioning exotic grasses to native habitat can be challenging! There are many methods that work for different situations. But for this job at Cooranbong our bush regeneration team has been on the brushcutters. Great to see the crew rocking the safety gear and look at that beautiful blue-sky winter day.

Throughout June, Trees in Newcastle had the absolute pleasure of working with the Rangers and field staff from Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council at Black Hill Conservation Agreement site. The site is a favourite for our bush regeneration team with a resident kangaroo mob and wedged tailed eagles soaring overhead. The combined teams are making fast work of sensitive lantana treatment and creating habitat piles from the waste. Habitat piles provide cover for small birds and mammals while the land transitions from weeds to native vegetation.

This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of Trees in Newcastle and City of Newcastle in collaboration with Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council

𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 or 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 is available at TIN tomorrow for half price - $3! This is a hardy shrub which can be grown for a low screen or hedge as well as provide habitat and attract pollinators.

TIN is open for local native plants tomorrow from 9am to 1pm. See you there. 🌱🌸 🐝

One person’s trash is a Bower Birds Treasure!
Our Bush Regeneration Team has been working out at Black Hill and came across this magnificent bower (unfortunately plastics)… but all the bling a lady Bower Bird could hope for. 🐦💙

At the Nursery we hear plants described in all sorts of ways, but today was the first time I'd ever heard someone say, "I knew it was a Corymbia because of the wrinkly armpits"

And you know what? They couldn't have been more right! 🌿😂

What's the weirdest way you've ever heard a plant described? We'd love to hear it!

𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 26ᵗʰ 𝙅𝙪𝙡𝙮

𝑻𝙧𝒆𝙚𝒔 𝑰𝙣 𝙉𝒆𝙬𝒄𝙖𝒔𝙩𝒍𝙚 will be open tomorrow (Friday 24ᵗʰ July) with a great range of native trees on sale for $𝟰 each for planting this weekend.🌱🌱

We’ll also be at the Newcastle City Farmers Market on Sunday which will be the 30ᵗʰ 𝑨𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒚 of National Tree Day. You’ll find us selling trees at the Save Link Rd Forest stall.

This weekend would be a great time to plant a tree or two to help our natural environment.

Reminiscing about the beautiful blue skies we had earlier this week 💙 But the rain is always welcome, it gives the plants a good drink and gives us a break from watering!

Regardless of the weather, we'll be open tomorrow, Friday 17th July from 9am to 1pm

We've got plenty of umbrellas to go round! ☔️
