Hey Redhead! The Sustainable Neighbourhood Group is planning a Community of Gardens Tour on Saturday 21st November and we're looking for gardens to showcase.

Perhaps you've turned your backyard into a veggie patch to feed your family, or you've established a thriving native garden to support local wildlife. Maybe you have a beautiful cottage garden full of colour that gives you joy, or you're growing hardy succulents as a water-saving measure. We're interested in all types of gardens!

If you have a garden that you're particularly proud of, or you know of a local garden that you'd love to get a better look at ;) we'd love to hear from you. 🌱 Redhead Community of Gardens Tour

Thinking about starting a garden?

As we welcome in Spring, many of us will be spending time reviving, renewing or replanting our gardens. Come this November, we’ll be touring the neighbourhood to check out what some of our garden enthusiasts have been up to!

Come along, gather ideas, ask questions and connect with the community!

Even the smallest garden can help you:

-reduce the amount of plastic-packaged produce you buy
-pick fresh food and herbs as you need them, reducing food waste
-turn food scraps and garden waste into nourishing compost
-provide food and habitat for insects, butterflies, bees and other wildlife

You don’t need a large garden or complete self-sufficiency to make a difference. A few pots of herbs, some leafy greens or a small vegetable patch can be a wonderful place to start, and our Community of Gardens Tour is a great way to gather inspiration.

The Groundswell Collective, supported by Redhead Sustainable Neighbourhood is hosting a Seed Library Packaging Session and Workshop - Creating Jewellery From Native Seeds - on Wednesday 24 June 930am at the Redhead Community Library. Only a few tickets left...please see link below to book your spot.

Discover the beauty and stories of native seeds through a creative jewellery-making presentation, followed by seed packing for the Lake Mac Seed Library.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out yesterday to spend their Sunday collecting Rubbish. And a big shout out to a special girl, Ella, who chose to spend her 7th birthday contributing to making her neighbourhood a cleaner place, along with her friends.

We had some great helping hands to sort through a few of the bags so we could see what kinds of things get left behind.

Together, we collected 12 large bags of rubbish and 7 bags of recycling. We saw a lot of:

fast food takeaway containers and wrappers
chip wrappers
dog poo bags
plastic bottle caps
straws
micro plastics
and a few articles of clothing, including thongs and other shoes

We’re set up at Webb Park this morning for Clean Up Australia Day, till 12pm. Come and get your gloves and bag and help us keep Redhead looking beautiful.
