The SA Branch of the AMWU stand alongside the SANFL Footballers Association in their pursuit of fair compensation, advocating for a significant increase in the minimum wage from $8 an hour. As the AFL's national presence continues to grow, SANFL player payments have dwindled, a trend that must be reversed. Stuart Gordon of the AMWU emphasizes, "As AMWU members and their families who passionately support football at all levels in SA, we've witnessed the devastating impact of the AFL's dominance and the impact on community clubs. It's time for the AFL to reinvest in the state leagues and nurture the talent that drives their success. Players in the SANFL develop valuable skills through hands-on experience, coaching, and mentorship – expertise that deserves fair recognition. We urge the AFL to listen to the voices of SANFL players, their clubs, and the communities that rely on them."
