Across parts of Ireland, colorful bottle caps are carefully arranged into mosaics at bus stops, turning ordinary waiting spaces into small bursts of public art. Instead of dull benches or plain walls, commuters find bright patterns, shapes, and sometimes meaningful images created entirely from discarded plastic caps. These designs not only catch attention but also make everyday routines feel a little more lively.

The process often involves local communities, schools, or volunteers who collect, sort, and assemble the caps into creative layouts. It becomes more than decoration—it’s a shared activity that brings people together while quietly teaching the value of recycling. Each mosaic reflects time, effort, and collective participation, making the final result feel personal to the area.

What makes this idea powerful is its simplicity. With materials that are usually thrown away, these bus stops become reminders that small actions can create visible change. It transforms waste into something engaging, encouraging people to think differently about what they discard.

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans has won the 2026 Women’s Prize for Fiction!

An uplifting and moving novel that confronts the hubris of youth with the wisdom of older age, the 2026 judges described it as “exemplary”, and having “captured their hearts”.

A modern tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria, once the largest and most significant library of the ancient world, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina was opened in 2002 on the shores of the Mediterranean. It houses millions of books, four museums, and multiple galleries. However, one art piece that is particularly popular with visitors is a bench shaped like a giant open book, featuring inscriptions of Shakespeare's sonnets, including the famed Sonnet No. 12. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina stands as both a symbol of Egypt's rich intellectual heritage and a thriving center of knowledge for the modern world.
