Today, the Foreshore Committee hosted our local DEECA staff on a walk along the foreshore from the Marina to the National Park. We pointed out the latest work, much due to a DECCA grant - Improving Beach Access. They updated us on the erosion control work planned for west of the Seagull boat ramp and the base of The Bluff. Hopefully we will hear of work later this year. Lunch at the Lions BBQ allowed for more discussion. Our perfect weather showcased our community for the new staff. Thank you for showing interest in our work and taking time to understand our successes and local issues.

The amazing Autumn warm, calm weather has encouraged many residents to enjoy the replacement tables and seats we purchased from the Men’s Shed. We thank the Men’s Shed for their quality work and friendly, helpful support. We will be replacing a few more soon. The funding from DECCA Beach Access Grant has allowed so much work to be done on the foreshore!

Many thanks to Ben from Responsible Tree Services this morning, one of our committee members noticed a tree branch hanging dangerously over the walking track at the entrance to Cameron’s Rd ramp.

He called Dan who organised for Ben to make an assessment. In no time at all Ben had removed the branches and taken them away.

Such prompt, professional and friendly service on a Sunday was amazing.

We are very grateful to the Wellington Shire Council for the grant which has enabled the committee to make improvements to the foreshore.

We held two community events - identifying weeds along the foreshore, planting native plants, and purchasing then installing bollards to inform walkers of distances along the track.

We also completed track work and repaired some erosion damage.

These grants make such a difference to the work of volunteer communities and we look forward to applying again.

A new stair case which will replace the old steps will be installed mid January. These steps are part of the design but the work is not complete. We have received feedback that a hand rail is needed and that will be done soon. Please take care until the work is complete. This work is being funded by the Improving Beach Access Grant the committee obtained from DECCA. Other work includes the access points at Cameron’s Rd, Clark St and Power Rd as well as track maintenance and resurfacing and information boards.

Another Funding Win for Loch Sport!

DEECA have just informed the committee that they have been successful in obtaining a Disaster Ready Fund grant from The Australian Government.
A portion of the funding will be allocated to erosion control work in Loch Sport at the High Dune Bluff.
The groyne designs for this area are completed and ready to go but the specifics are still to be worked through.

This funding is a major step for the area. Most of the sand moved to protect this very vulnerable area has washed away leaving it exposed again. We look forward to more details.

This funding was made possible due to the studies and designs that already have completed and ready to go for this site, and funding contributions already made to erosion mitigation at Loch Sport by the State Government over the past couple of years (these were requirements for the application).
