CFA Nerrena Fire Brigade Nerrena Fire Brigade is a volunteer community emergency service and is part of the Country Fire Authority. This page is not monitored 24/7.

Helping protect the lives an properties of our local community. In an emergency phone '000'. Nerrena Fire Brigade was formed on the 14th of November 1955, by local farmers and residents of the area. And has been serving the community of Nerrena ever since. The brigade is a small volunteer organization which relies on locals to volunteer to help their community in times of need. Like other brigades

, Nerrena CFA volunteers respond to bush fire and structural fire emergencies within the Nerrena area and across the South Gippsland area. We join fuel reduction burns across the region and train with many other brigades in South Gippsland. We also provide assistance in motor vehicle accidents and rescues and we work with other emergency agencies like the SES to respond to storm and flood clean-up. Nerrena brigade is looking for new members to join us and help with a range of activities, not just firefighting and emergency call-outs. CFA provides accredited training and support and locals joining up can learn new skills, meet their Neighbour's and have the opportunity to give something back to the community

Anyone 18 years and over is eligible to join regardless of gender, age or background. CFA also has a junior program for kids between 12 and 17 years of age, in which kids can learn Basic skills and fire knowledge.

Last Wednesday AFAC released the Spring Seasonal Outlook and shows that Spring is forecast to be considerably warmer and drier than average across much of Victoria.

There is an increased risk of fire predicted for drought-affected areas including:
East Gippsland,
Surf Coast,
And the far south-west.

An earlier transition into the fire season is likely to occur this spring, with the increased potential for a significant bushfire season ahead.

While not showing anything in the local area. now is still a good time to prepare.

The 18th of August 2026 holds a special meaning for Australia's Vietnam veterans, marking the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966.

On Vietnam Veterans' Day, we pay tribute to the more than 60,000 Australians who served in Vietnam and remember the thousands of Australians wounded, and the more than 520 who lost their lives. We also honour those who love and supported them, and those who have passed in the years since their return.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - TOMORROW 27TH OF JULY 2026

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.
It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, AusAlert need to test the system across Australia.
During these tests, all compatible mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

🕑 2pm Monday, 27 July: All of Victoria (as part of the nationwide test).

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
