Gold Coast Amateur Beekeepers Society

Gold Coast Amateur Beekeepers Society Join the GCABS if you want to learn how to be a beekeeper or if you want to meet fellow beekeepers. This is a volunteer-run non-profit organisation.

We meet monthly (the 3rd Sunday of each month) at the GCABS HQ 74 Billabirra Cres, Nerang. The Gold Coast's longest standing beekeeping club, offering a friendly inclusive environment and training for new to senior beekeepers. The Society was formed at a meeting of nine people on 20/9/79 following an Adult Education course at the Gold Coast College of TAFE. The course was conducted by Mr John Ros

ser, who was later appointed as the Patron of Our Society. From the beginning, the main aim of the Society has been to promote the Hobby of Beekeeping & to provide information & assistance to fellow members & members of the public in relation to the keeping of Honey Bees. The main services provided for members are:

1.Distribution of the monthly newsletter "THE BUZZ".
2.Hire of honey extracting equipment to members at a nominal fee, assisting each other with all facets of Amateur Beekeeping.
3.The Membership Fee paid annually through ABA. See https://www.gcabs.net.au/
4. Mentoring program. Monthly Meetings are held on the THIRD Sunday of the Month commencing at 10.00am. They mostly take the form of a cup of tea & a yarn, a short formal meeting [Run in standard meeting format] followed by a practical session on beekeeping where everyone is encouraged to become involved. Other activities conducted on an irregular basis are, Assisting the Gold Coast City Council and members of the Public with the collection of Swarms of Bees; Competing in Honey Competitions at Field Days & Agricultural Shows; Running and/or attending Beekeepers Field Days; Running a Beekeeping Stall Annually at regional Shows. Our Society maintains a close association with other Amateur Beekeeping Associations, other Organisations within the Beekeeping lndustry and the Department of Primary Industries Apiculture Section. Members, guests and visitors are welcome at all meetings.

Thank for offering to volunteer : This year the show is cancelled

**2026 SHOW CANCELLATION**
It is with sinking hearts that the Mudgeeraba Show Society advises that the 2026 Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show has been cancelled.

Persistent wet weather has left large areas of the Showgrounds waterlogged and unsuitable for the safe operation of many of our attractions, competitions and activities. Added to this challenge, this year we also face a significant reduction in available event parking, compounded by the recent implementation of the Mudgeeraba Traffic Area, placing additional pressure on access and event logistics.

This decision has not been made lightly. Over recent weeks, the Management Committee has carefully considered every possible option to proceed with the Show. However, following extensive assessment of the current conditions of the grounds, we have determined that we cannot safely or responsibly deliver the event our community deserves.

The safety of our patrons, volunteers, exhibitors, contractors and stakeholders must always remain our highest priority. In addition, the welfare of the many animals that form such an important part of our Show has been a significant consideration in our decision-making.

As custodians of a proud 96-year tradition, we believe our community deserves an event that reflects the quality, professionalism and country hospitality for which the Mudgeeraba Show is known. Out of respect for our patrons, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers and community partners, we are not prepared to deliver a substandard event.

This outcome is heartbreaking. Thousands of volunteer hours have already been invested by our Management Committee, volunteers, community groups, exhibitors and supporters in preparation for this year's Show. To see so much hard work and dedication not come to fruition is devastating for everyone involved.

We understand how disappointing this news will be for the many families, competitors, sponsors and supporters who have been looking forward to attending the Show, and we share that disappointment.

We sincerely thank our community for its ongoing support, understanding and patience as we navigate the cancellation process.

Further information regarding ticketing and other operational matters will be communicated in the coming days.

On behalf of the entire Mudgeeraba Show Society, thank you for standing by us. While this chapter is not the one we hoped to write, our commitment to our community, our volunteers and the future of the Mudgeeraba Show remains unwavering
