On Monday 11 May, the MCA executive met with the Yass Valley Council Executive team for our quarterly catchup. It was a productive meeting with topics such as the rec grounds, Field Days and Barton Highway pedestrian crossing discussed.
Other important points raised include:
• The need for more recreational space in Murrumbateman, and the urgency for the Masterplan to be accelerated as much as possible so that a suitable area in the Hawthorn land area can be released asap.
• Rose Street safety. We discussed ways to improve safety for school children, pedestrians, cyclists and cars in Rose Street. Some very good ideas arose and we hope to see progress towards a dedicated crossing and installing a footpath between North Street and Hercules Street to link the school/shops/daycare/preschool to the Hercules St shops/school bus stop/playground. Watch this space!
Our next meeting with Council will be in August. If you have any points you would like to raise, please let the MCA know.

A wonderful day to wrap up our final Honey & History session as part of the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival.

It was a fantastic morning filled with stories, shared memories, and a real appreciation for our town’s rich history. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped bring the past to life, and a special thank you to Mike and Maryanne at Win's Creek Meadery—the current custodians of this beautiful building—for hosting us so warmly and for the delicious morning tea 🤤

If you’ve been inspired and would like to help preserve the history of our town and region, we’d love you to join the MCA History Group—simply join the MCA (link to join in comments) and let us know you’re interested.
