We are delighted to announce the winners of our Writer in Residence competition for 2026.
This year’s winner is Lisa Matlin with her short story, “The Solace of Water.” The link to her story is below. As this year’s winner, Lisa will receive $800 cash and $1,000 voucher to Somers Cottage Studio for some valuable writing time.
The runner-up is Emma Rennison with her short story, “The Date.” Emma will receive $250 cash and book voucher to Farrells Bookshop.
Two Highly Commended prizes go to Sheena Robertson with her short story, “Beacon” and to Sarah Halfpenny with her short story, “Foreshadowing.” Sheena will receive $100 cash and voucher to Petersen's Bookstore. Sarah will receive $100 cash and voucher to Stories by the Sea.

We thank all members who entered the competition. Our judge, Nicole Hayes said that it was tough to narrow the winning places down as there was a very good standard across the competition.
