Dora Creek residents, tomorrows the day. Come for a chat, stay for a feed!!!

We will be hosting a drop-in session and BBQ from 11am-1pm at the Dora Creek Community Hall. Come on down and chat to our team about all things flood, storm and tsunami.

Our team will be on hand to talk about the local risks and consequences of floods and storms, our flood warning systems and processes, our operational response to emergencies and how you can help us when floods affect the area.

Have your say on the draft Operational Plan and Budget 2026–2027, which outlines key projects and services to support a growing, connected Lake Macquarie.

This year, we are proposing to spend a total of $393.2 million including more than $111 million on capital works. Key projects and deliverables include:

• Better parks, playgrounds and public spaces
• Upgrades to swim centres at West Wallsend and Charlestown
• Improvements to jetties, boat ramps and key community facilities
• Progress on major employment areas in the north west and south west
• Planning for post mining lands, including the former Macquarie Coal complex
• A new housing strategy to increase diversity and affordability
• Upgraded holiday parks and stronger cultural and sporting experiences
• Expansion of the Awaba Waste Management Facility and support for circular economy initiatives

Community feedback will help shape a strong future that protects our lifestyle, environment, governance and local economy. Submissions close Monday 20 April.

Good to see Transport for NSW getting on with the next stage of work on the Mandalong Road and Dora Street upgrade in Morisset.

Survey investigations kick off from 12 April and we are another step closer to delivering this $76 million project and getting this key intersection upgraded.

If you’re travelling through the area at night, you might notice:
• workers and machinery on site
• traffic controllers and signage in place
• some noise, lights and heavy vehicles
• temporary traffic changes, including lane closures and contraflow
• a reduced 40km/h speed limit

Work will be happening overnight (6pm–5am) to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Can't wait to get this important work underway.

⚡ Lake Macquarie has a long history of powering NSW. With the delivery of a large scale Battery Energy Storage System or BESS at Eraring our region will continue that legacy.

🔋 Today Origin Energy celebrated the completion of Battery 1 which will help to ensure grid stability as we transition to renewable energy delivery State-wide. I thank Origin for this investment in our community as the Power Station nears the end of its operational life.

⚡ I have enjoyed visiting the site as the project has progressed and have seen the transformation from a power station to becoming home to a BESS. Once complete it will be the largest in the southern hemisphere, with Battery 2 coming online next year.

🔋 These systems are needed to ensure a smooth transition and, with the completion of the Hunter Transmission Project, will support the State's renewable energy infrastructure.

🚧 Yesterday I visited Deaves Road alongside Federal member for Hunter, Dan Repacholi MP and Adam Shultz - Mayor of Lake Macquarie to announce a long-awaited $8.7 million funding package to flood-proof the increasingly important transport link.

💰 The federal government has pledged $4.6 million to the upgrade with State Government adding $4.1 million.

👷 Lake Macquarie City Council will deliver the work which began with site setup in mid-February and is expected to be finished and open to traffic in April 2027, weather permitting.

💦 Deaves Road has been prone to flooding for many years, and residents in the growing community needs this vital connection to function reliably in any weather.

📈 The south Lake Macquarie region will continue to develop, with population expected to almost double by 2046. Ongoing investment is needed to keep our community resilient.

💪 Next job priority... (still) Mandalong Road
