Welcome to Asbestos Council of Victoria/GARDS (Gippsland Asbestos Related Disease Support Inc.), a non-profit, non-government, voluntary organisation dedicated to supporting the victims of asbestos & silica and their families. The Asbestos Council of Victoria (ACV)/GARDS works to raise the level of asbestos & silica awareness in the community, indust

ry and at all levels of government. ACV/GARDS Support
Provides support and information to sufferers, their families and carers. This includes home visits by ACV/GARDS volunteers, a telephone support service, and drop-in services at The ACV/GARDS' office. ACV/GARDS Support conducts 2 x support meetings 1x in Gippsland and 1 x Metro Melb - Amaroo House Amaroo Street, Chadstone where guest presenters are invited to provide information about support services and other areas of interest and assistance. ACV/GARDS Support is open to anyone exposed to asbestos or silica or suffering from asbestos or silica disease. Asbestos Council of Victoria (ACV) Advocacy
The ACV is the organisational, activities and advocating arm of ACV/GARDS Inc. ACV Advocacy is focused on improving health support services and compensation arrangements to asbestos & silica sufferers and their families, ensuring asbestos & silica related issues are kept in the public eye and eventually, ridding our environment of asbestos and reducing the risks to silica exposure through education.

Over the course of her career in lung cancer and mesothelioma research, Professor Sonja Klebe has seen remarkable progress in how cancer is understood, classified and treated.

Mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting the protective lining of organs such as the lungs, heart and abdomen, was once considered a single disease with limited treatment options. Today, thanks to ongoing investment in research, care is becoming increasingly personalised and precise.

With support from a Health Seed Grant from Flinders Foundation in partnership with Flinders University, Professor Klebe and her team (pictured) are advancing precision immunobiology research to better predict how patients will respond to treatment, helping pave the way for more targeted and effective cancer care.

Dr Mo Mo Tin will discuss when radiation therapy may be considered, what patients can expect during treatment, potential benefits and side effects, and how radiation oncology can support symptom management and quality of life.

Import and export regulations Asbestos has been completely banned in Australia since December 2003. Goods are checked at the border to enforce this.
