While MELSA was washed out and Maryborough was wet, wet, wet, I had the pleasure of paying a visit to Lake Macquarie Live Steam Locomotive Society in Edgeworth NSW, while on a visit to Newcastle.
Luckily it was their public run day and it was a big turnout, although I was told it was quite by their averages. They have a fantastic track layout incorporating three types of track, 5" ground level track like ours, 5" raised track and also 7 1/4" track, all running simultaneously so that riders can pick and choose their preferred ride or try them all like I did :D.
All the people that I met were fantastic and friendly and it was so nice to see so many young members and volunteers, some with their own engines even. While I was there, a family even asked me how their 8yr old could join up as a member and learn the ropes! :D
If you find yourself in the Newcastle area on the last Sunday of the month and are missing our public run day, duck into Edgeworth to get your miniature railway hit. I will also now be seriously thinking about the taking on the 1100km drive to attend their birthday celebrations in March.
Speaking of Birthday's, MELSA Maryborough will be celebrating our 50th birthday this November public run day. Save the date and come and join us.
