National Reconciliation Week 2026!
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

26/05/2026

Today is National Sorry Day. A day to acknowledge and honour the strength, resilience and ongoing journeys of Stolen Generation survivors, their families and communities. We also recognise the lasting impacts of forced child removal and the ways these continue to affect First Nations children, young people, families and communities today.

At headspace, we believe every First Nations young person has the right to access culturally safe, inclusive and healing-centred support.

If today brings up difficult feelings, support is available. Visit the link below to explore support options.🖤💛❤️

💐 Mother’s Day is for all the nurturers, the mums, grandmas, aunties, sisters, carers and guardians who guide, protect and love in their own way 💕

Our team at headspace have shared what thier Mums means to them, and this is what some of our marvellous team had to say 🌟

🌼 “Mum for me is a hot pot of soup with warm bread on a cold day — comforting to know she is there” 🍲🍞

🌸 “Being a Mum means showing up every day with love, patience and strength, even when you’re tired or unsure. It’s about guiding, protecting and supporting while also letting your child grow into who they are. It can be messy, overwhelming and challenging, but also incredibly rewarding, grounding and full of small, meaningful moments!” 💞✨

☔ “Mum for me is board games and hot chocolate on a rainy day” 🎲☕️

🔥 “Having a mum is a cup of chilli hot chocolate and a wood fire that I take with me everywhere I go” ❤️‍🔥☕️

☕ “Being a Mum is not always easy but cherish those small moments. Sometimes life gets busy, then you must stop for a moment to smell the coffee!” 🌿

🧣 “I grew up with my Nan — she was like a cuddle blanket: warm, trusting and full of love” 💛🤍

Today, we honour you 💗

❤️ 🌹

Traumatic events and experiences can take many forms and understanding the impact of them can help family better support young people and respond with care and compassion.

1️⃣ Acute/Single Incident trauma can be experienced after a single, overwhelming traumatic event such as a car accident. Even one experience can have a lasting impact on how a young person thinks, feels, or responds to the world around them.

2️⃣Complex trauma can develop when a young person is exposed to stressful and traumatic experiences over a long period of time. These experiences can build up and affect their sense of safety, relationships, and wellbeing.

3️⃣Vicarious trauma can occur when someone is deeply affected by witnessing or hearing about distressing experiences happening to others, especially those they know, care about, or feel connected to.

4️⃣Intergenerational trauma refers to trauma that can be passed down through families or communities across generations, often linked to histories of injustice, displacement, colonisation or cultural loss.

Every young person’s experience of trauma is different. Taking time to listen and respond with understanding can help them feel supported and less alone. 💚
