✨✨New chapter for the Maldon Community Pantry! ✨✨

After nearly three years at the Holy Trinity Parish hall, the weekly Pantry is relocating to the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre from Tuesday 10th November. We are immensely grateful to the Holy Trinity parish for generously hosting us as the service has grown.

The Pantry has outgrown its current space, making the weekly setup and packing away of supplies increasingly difficult. Additionally, waiting for Foodbank deliveries at the MNC Hall puts a heavy strain on volunteer time. Moving to MNC, where staff and volunteers are present during regular opening hours, will streamline these deliveries and ensure continuous supply.

Importantly, this move will expand access to food relief beyond our current two-hour weekly window to better meet community needs.

There are so many people to thank for the success of yesterday's fundraiser! Despite the weather, many of the stall holders were still able to attend (some merchandise does not lend itself to rain and wind, understandably). They were all so gracious about making the best of a wet day.

Generous local businesses and individuals provided an impressive list of donations for the raffle. Thank you to the Motel Maldon, the Victorian Goldfields Railway, Maldon Rose, Maldon Quality Butchers, The Good Food Providers, Tarrengower Remedial Massage, a donation of local produce from one of our amazing volunteers, and the wonderful craftswomen Tina and Mary for their contributions - the raffle winners all seemed delighted with their prizes!

It was so lovely to meet the many visitors to the town who took time to browse the stalls, and catch up with locals braving the weather. Your messages of support and offers to help over the next busy weeks as we move warmed hearts even as feet were freezing in the weather! Thank you!

Thank you to Holy Trinity Parish for access to their church grounds. It is such a pretty spot in town and made a lovely backdrop to all the stalls.

Thanks also to the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre members and committee who kept up with sausage orders, sold raffle tickets, and baked and helped out on the cake stall. Partners, family, and friends of volunteers also showed up to support the Pantry: towing the BBQ trailer, helping with marquees, rubbish and recycling collection, lending tables and chairs, and running all the last minute errands needed - and more sausage cooking! (Lots of sausage cooking!)

The MNC Thursday craft club generously donated gorgeous hand knitted items to sell to support the pantry - there is just so much talent in our community! Thank you!

None of this could have happened without the amazing team of volunteers who not only turn up each week, but have given hours and hours of extra time, working hard to organise everything needed for the day. I hope everyone had the chance to dry out, warm up, and recover last night from a day on their feet. I am so very privileged to be part of such an amazing group who work tirelessly to maintain the Maldon Community Pantry. 💚💚💚💚

Visitors to the Pantry over the past few weeks will have been chatting with volunteers about the upcoming shift of the weekly pantry from our current home at Holy Trinity Parish hall to the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre. Starting nearly 3 years ago with 2 small shelves in the corner, the pantry has outgrown the hall. Most people don't see the Pantry "packed up" - the space is chockers with tubs of non-perishables, signs, bollards, basket of bags (etc) that need to be moved not only for weekly "Pantry hours" but also when Food Bank deliveries arrive weekly.

As Food Bank deliveries have become more frequent the pressure on volunteer hours has become difficult to sustain as Food Bank (quite reasonably!) require someone to be present when deliveries are made - we rarely get notice of the time, and so a volunteer needs to wait at the hall from 9am until it arrives (often not until mid-late afternoon). This will be manageable at MNC with staff and volunteers there during opening hours, and ensure continuity of deliveries and groceries for our visitors.

The move will also see access to food relief outside of the current 2 hours weekly which we know is unable to meet the need of many in our community.

The Pantry has been generously hosted by the Holy Trinity parish for the last 3 years, and we are immensely grateful for their support.
