Welcome to the Maldon Petanque Club official page. Posts will include our Newsletter, results, social pages, events, calendar and more.

The Club was established in 2003 and has a growing and enthusiastic membership. With 12 pistes we have ample room for club play as well as the ability to hold PFA sanctioned tournaments. Pétanque is a family game where gender, age and physical prowess have very little to do with success. Skill and cunning need time to develop! We extend a warm welcome to visitors and new players. Boules are available for you to try the game at no charge and an experienced player will guide you through the basics. Come and try pétanque with us; you just might find it’s the sport for you. We meet every alternate Sunday, with games starting at 2 pm. and at 1:30 in the winter months. After the competition we repair to the church hall for a delicious afternoon tea. Maldon Petanque Club

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR MALDON PÉTANQUE CLUB PLAYERS
Please take note of the following change to our regular game day on November 8th.

Change of Starting Time

As a number of members will be volunteering at the Maldon Market on this day, our usual Sunday games will start at 2.00 pm instead of 1.00 pm.
Registration will be from 1.30 pm. 3 games with prizes as usual.

Game Day - Sunday 11 October
With some of our regular players competing at a tournament in Nagambie and others on camping trips, it was a smaller turnout than usual at our regular club afternoon. There was some excellent pétanque played, however, where the scores were very close and the game was only won when the last boule was thrown. Lots of fun and plenty of friendly competition!
Two-game winner with eight points was Laurie in third place - a well-deserved placing because he pointed like a champion all afternoon. Special congratulations go to Jenny from the Bendigo club, who took out second place with three wins and 11 points. Jenny hasn’t been playing for long, and she was thrilled with her win. In first place with three games and 22 points under his belt was Andrew, who didn’t miss a trick all day.
But everyone was a winner courtesy of Lynette and Paul; we scarfed down Lynette’s sinfully rich chocolate brownies and Paul’s delicious exotic cheese biscuits - just what we needed to keep us up to speed on the piste all afternoon. We can’t thank you enough.
Our next regular fortnightly club game will be held on Sunday 25 October, with a 1pm start at St Brigid’s, Maldon. Everyone is welcome, including beginners. We are happy to provide boules and some friendly coaching.
All players are invited to stay back after play to enjoy a quiet beverage while catching up with fellow players. BYO drinks and nibbles.

To all our members:

We would really appreciate a few extra hands to help give the club grounds a tidy-up and get everything looking its best. From 2.00 pm on Thursday 15 October, we’ll be clearing the area, raking the pistes and giving the tables a fresh coat of paint.
Even if you can only spare an hour or two, your help would be greatly appreciated. The more people who come along, the quicker we can get the jobs done—and it’s always more enjoyable when we work together. Once the work is finished, we’ll wind down with a practice game and some well-earned refreshments.

Game Day - Sunday September 27.
On what was a fairly blustery day in Maldon, our Sunday game attracted another great turnout of players. After three rounds of play, Phil finished fourth,with two wins and 12 points. Laurie third, with three wins and 16 points. George claimed second place with three wins and 20 points, while Viv took out the overall win with three wins and an impressive 26 points. Well, done to everyone who took part.

And well done to Paul and Lynette who both brought scrumptious brownies for everyone. Paul's were studded with hazel nuts & Lynette's were a chocolate/coffee flavour.

Our next regular fortnightly club game will be held on Sunday, October 11, with a 1.00 pm start at St Brigid’s, Maldon. Everyone is welcome, including beginners.

All players are invited to stay back after play to enjoy a quiet beverage while catching up with fellow players. BYO drinks and nibbles.

Working Bee - Thursday October 15 2.00pm
WE NEED YOUR HELP! A little work now will make a big difference to our club! We’ll be getting together from 2.00 p.m. to clear the area, rake the pistes, and give the tables a fresh coat of paint.�Can you spare an hour or two? Please join us! The more hands we have, the sooner we’ll get everything done and it’s always more enjoyable with a few extra helpers. We will finish with a practice game and some well-earned refreshments!�Please let Barry or Karen know if you can lend a hand. We’d love to see you there!

Photos from last Sunday’s play at Avoca for the Rusty Poppet Head competition between Maldon & Pyrenees. Associate members from several other clubs were distributed to both teams to even the numbers.
Pyrenees wrested the trophy back from Maldon by the barest of margins, 20 games to 18.
A wonderful Spring day full of sun, blossom and friendly rivalry. Congratulations to Pyrenees, we’ll be coming for you next year!

Game Day - Sunday September 13.
On what was a lovely, mild day in Maldon, our Sunday game attracted another great turnout of players. With overcast conditions and a gentle breeze blowing, it was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon on the pistes. A delicious array of treats were provided by Lynette and Paul, which we continued to enjoy with our liquid refreshments after the game.

Finishing in fourth place was Karen with two wins and 10 points. Tom came third with two wins and 10 points. Peter claimed second place with two wins and 11 points, while Lynette took out the overall win with three wins and an impressive 26 points. Well done to everyone who took part.

Our next regular fortnightly club game will be held on Sunday, September 27, with a 1.00 pm start at St Brigid’s, Maldon. Everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced player or would simply like to come along and have a go.
All players are very welcome to stay back after play for a post-game get-together, and to sink a quiet beverage while catching up with fellow players. BYO drinks and nibbles.

Golden Boule Competition Final - Saturday September 5.
The final round of the Golden Boule competition was held at Ballarat Pétanque Club on Saturday, September 5, where we played Woodend-Hanging Rock. Through bitter winds and many puddles, and although we put our best game forward, W-HR came out shooting and finished 8 points ahead of us.
Thank you to Mount Macedon PC for hosting the day and to Ballarat PC for providing the great venue. The day concluded with the official presentation to Pyrenees PC, who were the winning club for the third year in a row.

RUSTY POPPET HEAD CHALLENGE 2026
Pyrenees PC v Maldon PC
At Avoca Sports Grounds, 55 Faraday Street Avoca
On SUNDAY 20th September 2026

EVENT FORMAT
4 games played to 45 minutes plus 1 end, plus 1 if tied.
Play commences at 10.00am. Registration 9:30 am.
BYO lunch.
Tea and coffee and nibbles provided by Pyrenees PC.
Two games then lunch (approx. 12.00 noon) then 2 games after lunch.
Teams Format: doubles or triples depending on numbers with teams re-drawn after each game.
No Entry fee

Trophy: The Rusty Poppet Head Trophy will be awarded to the winning

On what was a lovely pre-spring day in Maldon, our Sunday
social game attracted another great turnout of players. With
the sun shining and spring just around the corner, it was a
very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon on the pistes.

After three rounds of play, the winners were decided.
Finishing in fourth place was Colin with two wins and 8
points. Lynette came third with two wins and 10 points. Phil
claimed second place with two wins and 12 points, while Sandy
took out the overall win with three wins and an impressive 22
points. Well done to everyone who took part.

Our next regular fortnightly games will be held on
Sunday 13 September with a 1pm start at St Brigid’s, Maldon.
Everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced player
or would simply like to come along and have a go.

To celebrate the end of winter, we have introduced to our
Social Sundays a post-game get-together, to sink a quiet
beverage while catching up with fellow players. It is also a
chance for Petanque tragics to hold post-mortems on games
or even have another game. We are hoping that this will be a
relaxed and chilled way to socialise with fellow petanquers. All
players are very welcome. BYO drinks and nibbles.

Golden Boule Competition
The final round of the Golden Boule competition will be
co-hosted by Maldon and Mount Macedon clubs and held at
Ballarat Pétanque Club on Saturday 5 September where we
will play Woodend-Hanging Rock PC. The day will conclude
with the official presentation to the winning club.
