Maldon Pétanque Club

Maldon Pétanque Club Welcome to the Maldon Petanque Club official page. Posts will include our Newsletter, results, social pages, events, calendar and more.

The Club was established in 2003 and has a growing and enthusiastic membership. With 12 pistes we have ample room for club play as well as the ability to hold PFA sanctioned tournaments. Pétanque is a family game where gender, age and physical prowess have very little to do with success. Skill and cunning need time to develop! We extend a warm welcome to visitors and new players. Boules are availa

ble for you to try the game at no charge and an experienced player will guide you through the basics. Come and try pétanque with us; you just might find it’s the sport for you. We meet every alternate Sunday, with games starting at 2 pm. and at 1:30 in the winter months. After the competition we repair to the church hall for a delicious afternoon tea. Maldon Petanque Club

It was good to be back on our home pistes again after last weekend’s somewhat deflating journey to Smythesdale.

We were joined by members of three other regional clubs for Sunday's games.
Last time, nobody won all their 3 games, but what a turn around it was on Sunday with all 4 place-getters winning 3 games. The best of the best was Esther Boulger with 21 points followed by Chris Przygoda 19 points, Susan Forster 18 points and Geoff McLennan 15.

The weekend after next will be full on petanque on St Brigid’s pistes with the second round of the Golden Boule to be played against Mt Macedon PC on Saturday 20 June at 10.00am.
Then on Sunday 21 June we welcome the Bendigo PC to the first inter-club tournament for the “Golden Towns Challenge” which will also include a shooting competition. Should be fun!

The first round in this year’s Golden Boule was played on Saturday, and we were drawn to play away against Smythesdale.
Despite the congenial company and weather, it didn’t go so well for us. By the time we’d begun to adjust to the pistes, the three games were all over and Smythesdale had won 8 games to our 4.

Best players for Maldon were Karen Milner and David Shaw who
each won two of their three games.

Congratulations to Smythesdale and thanks for hosting the day. We’ll hope to turn the tables next time.

During one of Sunday's games, total confusion reigned when a player threw all three of an opponent's boules. Luckily, David Shaw was on hand to authoritavely sort it out without the need to resort to fisticuffs.

Nobody was able to win three games, so the best of the two-game winners was Phil Hopley with 12 points followed by Geoff McLennan and George Forster.

Next Saturday a team of 10 are off to Smythesdale for round 1 of the Golden Boule tournament. The second round will be on Saturday 20 June against Mt Macedon.

Our next regular club games will be on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at the St Brigid’s pistes. Starting time is 1.00pm but please get there earlier to register for the random draw. With any luck the fire will be blazing.

Our weekly practice sessions on Thursdays will be on at 4.00pm weather permitting of course at the St Brigid’s pistes, come and have a go.

Here’s a bunch of photos from yesterday’s Forster Cup tournament.

Many thanks to everyone who competed, Umpire Beverley, scorers Peter, Sue and George, our members for putting on a fine spread for morning tea, the Men’s Shed gourmet BBQ, our sponsors and all of you who supported the raffles.

The weather gods heard our fervent prayers and turned on a lovely sunny May day. Play was intensely competitive but all in good spirits - not a yellow card, let alone a red made an appearance and congratulations to Giselle, Shane and Michael, the only team to win 5 games.

We loved hosting you and look forward to doing it all again next year.

Results are on the club's website: https://www.maldonpetanqueclub.com.au/

After a hectic Saturday with the British Bikes Rally, Maldon was all primed for the fortnightly games at the St Brigid’s pistes.
We welcomed Sue, our tournament scorer, who had come for a look and brought two friends, Sandy P & Rob who ended up playing the 3 games and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The sunshine extracted the best from three players who won their 3 games; the best individual scorer was Sandy Noble with 34 points followed by Bev Forsyth 31 points and Andrew Leckie 27 points. Phil Hopley with 2 wins and 18 points took home the chocolates.

Our next regular games will be on Sunday, 10 May 2026 at the St Brigid’s pistes, look for our new banners on the front gate. Starting time is 1.00pm but please get there earlier to go into the random draw.

Our weekly practice sessions on Thursdays will be on at 4.00pm, weather permitting of course, at the St Brigid’s pistes - a great opportunity to hone up the skills for the upcoming Bendigo and Maldon Triples tournaments.

On Saturday 9 May we will be hosting our annual Forster Cup. We have a full complement of 72 players arriving from all over. Please make our visitors welcome and support the club’s raffle which has two prizes - a 100 euro voucher from Boules Australia and a jam-packed hamper of goodies. The raffle will be drawn on the day. Good luck!
