Sinking Ipswich

Sinking Ipswich The silly season is here again. Before they were elected, every candidate declared their opposition .

The folks from Planning just dropped an approval allowing the import of thousands of cubic metres of fill on the Bremer floodplain at North Ipswich.

More developments at 48 W M Hughes St.
Council has sheepishly published a note to residents concerning the state of play of the riverbank at North Ipswich. Here's the link: https://hdp-au-prod-app-ipsw-shapeyouripswich-files.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/2917/8786/8055/Fact_Sheet_WM_Hughes_FINAL.pdf?
So this is for a development that is 57% larger than the previous one which was roundly rejected by the citizens of Ipswich.
Sinking Ipswich really appreciates the insightful comments posted.
Floodplain development affects us all.

Security bars optional?
The latest iteration of the 22 W M Hughes St development (Sardine City to the locals) has really shown John West how to pack a tin.
Check out the pictures showing the density of stage one, approximately one third of the site. The similarity to 1880's Woolloomooloo slum housing is striking.
The architects who designed this pride themselves on energy efficiency and green design😞.

Dead Skunk in the middle of the Road? Loudon Wainwright III maybe having to do a gig in Ipswich if this stench keeps building....

Developmenti has just published a note to the prospective developers of 48 W M Hughes St saying, in essence, yes: please go ahead with a Development Application for a hugely increased number of dwellings (to outdo the number that they've increased in Sardine City) oh, and by the way, we'll assess this application against the 2006 Town Plan.
This decision was CODE assessed. No public input. No justification. At the time when the press are announcing the bulldozing of Mihi Grove, Sinking Ipswich finds it somewhat ironic that a development assessment for housing two and a half thousand people in a similarly flood prone area should not trigger an impact assessable DA.
It looks like the battle lines are being drawn again, so if you live on the River, care for history, don't want to be involved in the Trumpy Bridge gridlock , ask both your local Councillor and Sate Member WTF is going on, and please post responses in the comments.

Mindnumbing arrogance. Developmenti has just published yet another DA from the mob who brought you the walled development on North St and Sardine City on W M Hughes.
They have now have put in an application, code assessable, for double the number of units on the site at 48 W M Hughes St.
They want this DA to be assessed against the superceded 2006 Town Plan.
They sure don't want the public to have any input.
It's time Council put on their Big Girl and Boy pants and resume the land (there is still a motion on the books for the council to act).
Please lobby your local representatives to end this idiocy.

The folks working on the site at W M Hughes St don't seem to be having a really good run.
First a little oopsy that deprived a large percentage of North Ipswich of power a couple of weeks ago, and now some troubling observations concerning the demolition of substation #4.
This building would have been riddled with asbestos...that's a super six roof, and internal electrical insulation would have had asbestos components.
Any transformers from the period would have cooling oil with PCB's, a chemical which was phased out years ago because of its toxicity.
Despite this the site has no containment bund and the recent rain is already undermining their stormwater works. Naturally any overflow ends up in the Bremer.
