RPCDP says more than a job title ever could.

Registered Professional Career Development Practitioner is a mark of professional recognition that reflects qualifications, experience, professional association membership, and ongoing professional development.

It tells clients, employers, and stakeholders that you have met nationally recognised standards.

Last week CICA held its first "A Conversation with CICA", an open session with no slides and no set agenda. Participants brought the questions, and our Executive Director responded directly.

The discussion ranged widely. It covered how CICA engages with government and whether that advocacy is producing visible change, the uneven state of career education across schools and jurisdictions, and the responsibility to support workers whose roles are shifting under AI. It kept returning to what artificial intelligence means for the profession, including the risk that these tools confirm what a person already believes rather than challenge it. There were practical questions too, about the RPCDP register and webinar recording access.

Attendees provided positive feedback for the CICA International Webinar Series, something we continue to work on and do not take for granted.

What stayed with us was that none of it was planned. The shape of the half hour came from the people who joined. No two sessions will be the same, because each is built by who turns up and what is on their mind.

The next Conversation with CICA is on 17 September 2026. Bring a question about our role, our advocacy, or where the profession is heading.

CICA is proud to acknowledge the awarding of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) to Bernadette Gigliotti, past President of the Career Industry Council of Australia, in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for her distinguished service to secondary and vocational education.

Bernadette’s leadership has had a lasting impact on our profession. Her work at CICA was central to the development of the Australian Professional Standards for Career Development Practitioners, a landmark achievement that positioned Australia as a world leader in quality career services. As CEO of the Australian Centre for Career Education, she continued to advance the field, advocating consistently for careers education to be recognised as a core component of every young person’s schooling.

On behalf of CICA and the broader career development community, we extend our sincere congratulations to Bernadette on this well-deserved recognition.

Anyone can call themselves a career coach.

Not everyone can meet the nationally recognised qualification and professional membership requirements needed to be listed on the Australian Register of Professional Career Development Practitioners.

The Register helps individuals, employers, schools, organisations, and governments identify practitioners who have demonstrated professional capability and commitment to recognised standards.

Professional recognition matters.
