This one means a great deal to our CentreStage family. We are incredibly proud to share that CentreStage has donated in excess of $30,000 to Cancer Council Victoria, following our recent fundraising efforts.

Cancer has touched so many families in our community, including our own. The Greenwood family has proudly supported Relay for Life since 2013, and over that time our extended Relay for Life chain has helped raise more than $1 million for Cancer Council Victoria.

This donation also carries deep personal meaning. When CentreStage began in 2010 with $100 in the bank, big dreams and a lot of personal favours, we could never have imagined what it would become. Today, with hundreds of students, dedicated staff, passionate families and around 600 active volunteers, our community continues to prove that theatre can do more than entertain. It can bring people together, raise awareness, support families and create real impact.

Thank you to every person who donated, attended, volunteered, performed, supported, shared or simply showed up. This result belongs to all of you. The show goes on, and so does the work.

Absolutely proud to stand behind Casting Dreams as a Platinum Sponsor for the Dream Big Benefit Evening.

Casting Dreams is doing something genuinely special. Led by 14-year-old Daniel, this organisation is helping make performing arts education more accessible for young people by funding scholarships, creating opportunities, and proving that age is no barrier to real community impact.

CentreStage has supported Casting Dreams from the beginning because we believe in the same bigger picture: young people deserve access to the arts, confidence-building experiences, strong role models, and pathways that help them be seen, heard and supported.

Dream Big is more than a fundraising night. It is a celebration of regional talent, youth leadership, generosity and community backing the next generation of performers.

We are proud to support Daniel, Casting Dreams, and every young person who will benefit from the scholarships created through this event.

Tickets are on sale now for Friday 10 July 2026.

Let’s get behind a young changemaker doing something meaningful for our performing arts community.

Join us live for a special episode of Onstage Casting Call Podcast as David Greenwood OAM and Brian Coppock take actors behind the scenes of the casting pipeline.

We’ll be talking about the opportunities many performers never see publicly, including how casting briefs move through platforms, portals, agents and industry relationships.

This is a practical conversation for actors, musical theatre performers, screen talent and parents of young performers who want to better understand how the industry really works, and why professional representation can make such a difference.

Congratulations to everyone at Footlight Productions on a wonderful season and for continuing to bring new theatre to Geelong.

It is always exciting to see local companies take on fresh work, welcome audiences into something new, and contribute to the strength of our region’s theatre community. Geelong is better when our stages are active, ambitious and supported by people who genuinely love what they do.

There was also a very special full-circle moment donating our nun costumes so they can grace the stage again. Those costumes have lived a few lives now, carried by different performers, different stories and different audiences, but each time they appear under the lights they bring back such fond memories.

The past six months have also been a lovely reminder of what can happen when local theatre companies reconnect, collaborate and celebrate each other’s work. For CentreStage, that connection has deep roots. In many ways, it was Footlight that helped inspire the launch of CentreStage 16 years ago, so seeing that friendship rekindled and strengthened again feels genuinely meaningful.

The road to Hadestown begins now. We are proud to officially announce the casts for our Senior Troupe productions of Hadestown: Teen Edition.

Across four separate productions, our students will step into one of the most powerful and ensemble-driven contemporary musicals ever written. This full-length production demands emotional storytelling, musical precision, movement, collaboration, and an extraordinary level of commitment from every performer involved.

From Orpheus and Eurydice’s journey of love and sacrifice to the industrial world created by the Workers and ensemble, Hadestown is a production where every performer shapes the storytelling. The ensemble is the heartbeat of this show, driving the energy, atmosphere, and emotional power from beginning to end.

We could not be prouder of every student who auditioned and every student preparing to step into rehearsal for this ambitious project.

Last night, I had the absolute privilege of seeing A Whole New World of Alan Menken at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne.

It was more than a concert. It was a masterclass in storytelling, craft, collaboration and the courage to let go of work you love.

This week’s episode of Onstage: Casting Call is a homage to that experience and a reflection on one of the hardest lessons for any performer or creative:

Don’t fall in love with your work.

Because sometimes the song, scene, audition take or creative choice you love most may end up on the cutting room floor, and sometimes that is exactly what makes the final piece stronger.

Thank you to the MT Canvas producing team for the complimentary tickets and for bringing such an extraordinary performance to Melbourne.
