When you’re too cute that you have to be escorted off the premises!!
It’s definitely duckling season with WWO attending to more than 30 different ducklings over the last week alone!
It is generally a good rule to leave ducks and ducklings be alone, they will find their way. Only in specific instances it is ok to intervene, however usually there is no need to catch them and they can be ‘escorted’ to a safer location. Such as today when the WWO team helped herd them from the Victor Harbor shopping centre to a nearby creek and bushland.

What a huge and successful quiz night done and dusted!! Congrats to all the winners of raffles, the door prizes and of course the winning table!
WWO would like to thank all our amazing sponsors, volunteers and especially the team of organisers that made it all possible including our executive team, helpers and bar staff on the night.
We raised more than $5,600 for the night over the course of the night from ticket sales, raffle sales and the silent auction! Thanks again to everyone who contributed to such a big success for our humble wildlife rescue charity 😊

Whilst it’s the first week of Spring WWO have been into action and busy looking after baby animals for the last few weeks already. Whether orphaned or lost we have been raising a variety of birds in readiness for the warmer weather where we can release them, hoping for their best chance of survival. A huge shoutout to all the volunteers and WWO team that are feeding these birds 3, 4 or 5 times a day to keep them growing strong 💪
Also a bonus kangaroo joey (now with an experienced carer) for good measure 😊

WWO has recently taken into care three orphaned White Ibis chicks after the catastrophic winds and rain on Sunday blew their nest out of the tree it was situated in. Whilst they are quite strong and calling loudly there are still concerns for the smallest of the 3 that is half the size of its largest sibling. Birds will often lay clutches of 4 or more eggs in the hopes that at least 1-2 chicks will survive to fledge and Ibis are no exception. In care, being raised in a clutch is the best thing for young chicks to lower the chances of imprinting and to encourage more natural behaviours among individuals. Fingers crossed for these guys as they’re not out of the woods yet, so to speak.

No rest for WWO!
Even with baby bird season around the corner the rescue team is still attending entangled birds every week. Unfortunately this poor Silver Gull was hooked and the angler has unhooked their trace before letting it go again.
Watch new team member Tina get some first hand training on how the net launcher works.
