Goolwa Band

Goolwa Band We are Goolwa's very own Big Band! We love to perform at community events throughout our local area as well as holding an annual concert and regular cabarets.

We rehearse Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.30pm at Goolwa Centenary Hall. There are records of the band dating back over 100 years and with a historic photo of the band dated 1918. The current band was formed in1986 as a brass band called the Goolwa & District Citizens Band. It then became a concert band in 1998 in order to cater for a broader range of instruments played by younger people in the community. It

is an incorporated organisation run entirely by volunteers and with the support of the Alexandrina Council. The band provides free public entertainment at community events such as Australia Day, the Port Elliot Show and at the Goolwa Christmas Festival. It also performs in public at the Goolwa Wharf precinct and provides entertainment as part of community fund-raising events. The band also gives concerts at residential villages and at aged-care facilities in the region. The band has played at the Strathalbyn Band Festival since its inception in 2001, and as its main fund-raising activity, hosts an annual concert. This fills Centenary Hall in Goolwa with an appreciative audience. The band currently has over thirty members and plays a range of music, including swing, big-band, jazz, latin, and pop and rock music from the 1960’s and 70’s. It is fortunate to have the services of Allan Blackledge as Musical Director and Sharon Harding as resident vocalist.
