Infant Hearing Screening Now Available in Lautoka!

The Audiology Department has expanded its Infant Hearing Screening services to Lautoka, Vidilo House MCH Clinic, commencing today, 24th February.

At this stage, plans are to conduct Audiology screening clinics every two months targeting new borns in the Lautoka- Yasawa division.

The screening is conducted through automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) which will provide a 'Pass' or 'refer' result. A 'refer' result may be due to baby being unsettled or due to environmental noise or other factors. In this case, a second screening will be carried out at the hospital during the next visit or in high risk infants where further assessment is required, the baby will be referred for a full diagnostic hearing assessment at the Frank Hilton Audiology Department in Suva.

👉Why screen early?
Early hearing screening helps detect hearing loss as soon as possible. Early identification and intervention are essential for speech, language, learning and social development, giving every child the best start in life.

This screening is a conducted through funding from the FIJI Water Foundation. The state of the art technology was procured through funds raised through the efforts of Compassion Network and agrant from the Direct Aid Programme of the Australian High Commission, Fiji.

With deep sadness, we join the Frank Hilton Organisation in mourning the passing of dear Christie Hope, a cherished resident of the Hilton Home. Christie’s life was a beautiful reflection of courage, resilience, and unconditional love. She brought warmth, light, and hope to everyone around her, and her spirit touched many hearts within the Hilton Home and beyond. As an organisation committed to serving and uplifting children with disabilities in Fiji, Christie’s journey reminds us why this mission is so close to our hearts. Her life continues to strengthen our purpose and deepen our commitment to serve with love and care. Today, we stand in heartfelt solidarity with the Frank Hilton Organisation family, carers, and all who loved Christie. Her gentle presence and brave journey will always remain a part of the Hilton Home’s story and mission. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. You will always be remembered, dear Christie Hope.

A Moment of Gratitude. A Commitment in Action.
On 27 November 2025, we reached a meaningful milestone for us at Compassion Network. Through the generosity and support of our community, we were honoured to be part of the handover of essential equipment to the Frank Hilton Organization Fiji (FHO) and the Ministry of Health Fiji, alongside the Australian High Commission in Fiji. This initiative was made possible through our annual charity fundraising efforts, where we raised AUD $17,755 (FJD $23,370). These funds were used to purchase and hand over specialised equipment supporting infant hearing detection and early intervention, helping ensure children with hearing challenges are identified and supported at the earliest possible stage. In this video, you will hear reflections from representatives of the Frank Hilton Organisation, the Australian High Commission in Fiji, and Compassion Network on what this handover means for the children and families we collectively serve. We are deeply grateful to every supporter, volunteer, sponsor, donor, and community member who made this possible. This handover is about more than the equipment itself. It reflects what can be achieved when communities come together with compassion, collaboration, and a shared purpose. Together, we move forward with one act of kindness at a time.
