New NDIS legislation has passed Parliament, but the changes will not happen all at once or affect everyone in the same way.

For now, you can continue using your current plan and receiving your supports as normal.

If the NDIA contacts you, it is important to respond as soon as you can. This may mean answering or returning a call, or acknowledging a message.

If you are unsure whether the contact is genuine, ask for the caller's details and call the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110 to confirm before sharing personal information.

We will continue sharing clear information, answering questions about your current supports and working alongside you throughout the changes.

The Australian Government will test its new emergency warning system, AusAlert, on Monday 27 July at 2:00pm AEST.

At the time of the test, a single Critical AusAlert test message will be sent to compatible mobile phones and some other mobile devices across Australia.

Your device may:

- vibrate
- play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds
- show an AusAlert message on screen

The message will clearly say it is a test. No action is required.

We know sudden sounds can be distressing for some people, including people with sensory sensitivities. If you or someone you support may be affected, you can turn your device off or switch it to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time and leave it off or in aeroplane mode for at least one hour.

For more information and accessible resources, visit the AusAlert website:

July is Disability Pride Month: a time to recognise identity, community, belonging and the many ways people experience disability.

There is no single way to experience Disability Pride. It can be advocacy, creativity, independence, friendship, leadership, connection or achieving a goal that matters.

At Cootharinga, we work alongside people with disability to live the life they choose, in ways that are meaningful to them.

This year’s theme is “The World Works Better With Us” - a reminder that inclusion is not about asking people to change so they belong. It is about removing barriers so everyone can take part.

We’d love to hear from our community: what does Disability Pride mean to you? Comment below👇

Our Townsville clients and employees came together on the traditional lands of the Bindal and Wulgurukaba peoples for an immersive cultural experience in recognition of NAIDOC Week.

Facilitated by William Mabo, founder of STYKX and grandson of Eddie Koiki Mabo, the experience offered the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultural artefacts and traditions through traditional fire-making, didgeridoo meditation and even some carefully controlled spear throwing.

The day celebrated the enduring knowledge, skills and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, creating meaningful opportunities to learn, connect and reflect together.

A heartfelt thank you to William from STYKX for generously sharing their knowledge, stories and culture, helping make the day such a memorable experience for everyone involved.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks an important milestone in celebrating the strength, leadership, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The theme honours five decades of voices, stories, language, art, marches, community action and ongoing connection. It also looks ahead to the next 50 years with pride, strength and purpose.

This week, our clients and employees will come together for NAIDOC Week events across many Cootharinga locations. We look forward to celebrating together and sharing photos from these special moments.

This week, and every week, we honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities.

Let’s keep moving forward together with respect, care and commitment.

Today is Autistic Pride Day.

Created by and for the autistic community, Autistic Pride Day recognises autistic identity, experiences and perspectives in our communities.

To mark the day, we are asking our autistic clients and employees within our community:

💬 "How could the world be more inclusive for you?"

If you would like to share with us, we would be very open to hearing from your lived experiences.

And we encourage everyone to take a moment to read, reflect and consider the small, meaningful ways we can all help create communities where autistic people feel understood, respected and included.

Harmony Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate the cultural diversity that strengthens our organisation and the communities we serve.

At Cootharinga, our people and clients bring a rich mix of cultures, languages and experiences—and that’s something we celebrate every day. ⚖️

A promise that every woman and girl, regardless of background or identity – should be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives. Yet in 2026, women and girls across Australian are still denied that fair go.

At Cootharinga, we focus on equality, which is about dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all. For more than 70+ years, we've worked alongside and for women and girls of all abilities – where we have championed choice, inclusion and community-led progress.

Because when women stand equal, communities are stronger. ♀️

This International Women’s Day, we stand with those calling for justice, accessibility and systems that truly support every woman and girl – including our First Nations women and women with disability.

Let’s Balance the Scales together. 🙌
