Frankston Nature Conservation Reserve parkrun #236 β 13 June 2026
Winter certainly made its presence felt at Frankston Nature Conservation Reserve this morning. While the rain kindly stayed away, a strong wind swept across the course and made itself known from start to finish.
The nature reserve was looking particularly spectacular this morning. While most runners were busy battling the wind (and perhaps the runner in front of them), the reserve's winter residents were quietly putting on a show of their own. Toadstools and other fungi have sprung up throughout the bushland in recent weeks, creating what felt at times like a scene from a fairy tale. Those not chasing a PB may have been lucky enough to spot some of the remarkable variety tucked amongst the trees and leaf litter as they made their way around the course.
The finish area was undoubtedly the windiest part of the course, with volunteers demonstrating impressive balance, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to not being blown away. Their efforts ensured every participant crossed the line to a warm welcome, accurate time and, most importantly, a finish token that hadn't disappeared into the lake or surrounding bushland.
