If you can’t attend in person, please submit a proxy. There’s a list of trusted members available, and you’re welcome to provide clear voting instructions for your proxy holder.

This AGM is a significant opportunity for the club to reset expectations, strengthen its governance, and refocus on basketball and our kids. Strong member participation is the only way it happens.

A quick update for Emerald Lakers Basketball Club members:

The notice for the rescheduled Special General Meeting doesn’t align with the Club’s 1989 Rules, particularly around how membership and voting rights are defined. On that basis, the meeting as described isn’t valid.

We’re challenging the accuracy of the information provided, but we still encourage members to register and attend so nothing is pushed through without proper oversight.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

We’re updating the 1989 Emerald Lakers Model Rules to align with the New Draft Model Rules. Learn about the proposed changes right here on our website and cast your vote at the Online Special Resolution.

🏀 EMERALD LAKERS MEMBERS — PLEASE ATTEND TONIGHT

Our club currently (as of 19 October at 7pm) has 416 registered members, and we can confidently say — the members have the numbers.

A special resolution to change the club’s rules requires a high percentage of support from eligible members. Based on current registrations, it’s now mathematically impossible for that threshold to be met.

So why are we still being called to this meeting, we're not really sure!

I suppose because it’s important that every member shows up, sees the process for themselves, and stands together for proper governance and transparency. And also to continue voting if you haven't yet, and to be there to support fairness, transparency and due process.

Hi team, as one of the resident Americans, I feel like it's my duty to organise Halloween! If there is already a Halloween thread and I'm missing it, my apologies!

I've also written up a few little guidelines to help. Please note- don't trick or treat directly after school. It starts about 5pm, to give households enough time to get ready!!

🎃 Trick-or-Treating Guidelines for Halloween 🎃

🎃Start at 5 pm – Trick-or-treating begins at 5 pm and wraps up by 8 pm.

🎃Respect Non-Participants – Only visit homes with lights on or Halloween decorations; not everyone celebrates Halloween.

🎃Stick Together – Kids should stay with friends, and younger children should have an adult nearby.

🎃Mind Your Manners – A quick "thank you" keeps everyone in the Halloween spirit!

This is urgent.

Our local basketball club have now breached multiple obligations under Victorian law, including failure to hold an Annual General Meeting within the required timeframes. They stated they didn't have rules, so they set out to create new ones. Well, I went and found them for them (you're welcome.) They DO NOT NEED TO CREATE NEW RULES TO HAVE AN AGM.

The committee is pressing ahead with a special resolution meeting that has no legal basis and distracts from the real issue:
➡️ The club has not met its fundamental governance duties.
➡️ Members have not been given the transparency, elections, or reports they are legally entitled to.
➡️ Continued breaches could expose the club to penalties or, in extreme cases, intervention or deregistration under the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic).

We agree that the rules need updating, but first, we need a compliant, functional club one with proper records, reports, and a lawfully elected committee that understands its responsibilities.

Once that’s in place, new rules can and should follow as a matter of priority.

Until then, the right path is clear:
✅ Cancel the unnecessary meeting
✅ Call the AGM immediately
✅ Rebuild governance the right way

Members deserve transparency, accountability, and a fair vote, not a rushed rule change under a non-compliant committee.
