In the heart of wildlife carers, every second counts—and every life matters. Red Box Wildlife and Veterinary Centre stands as a sanctuary of hope, providing critical care, lifesaving surgeries, and ongoing rehabilitation to injured and orphaned Australian Wildlife completely free of charge.

From emergency medical interventions to daily nourishing supplies, every patient is treated with love, kindness and respect. This lifesaving work is driven by the dedicated expertise of senior veterinary surgeon Dr. Mark and talented veterinary student Tom. Together, they combine years of advanced surgical experience with modern, passionate care to give native wildlife a second chance at life in the wild.
As word spreads and demands grow, to keep this service free we have opened a bank account to accept donations to make this possible.
It is not connected to the charity and we cannot offer DGR status. If you give, you give out of trust and love for our wildlife. Every cent will be funnelled into keeping this clinic operational.

This is "Bug". She arrived late last night in the cold and the dark after being dropped by mum that got a fright from a dog that was in their yard and barked when they saw mumma.
My kind neighbour saw what happened and scooped Bug up and gave me a call.
Accidents happen but it's how people respond that tells you about their character. It's reaction for most people to want to help. Please make sure you have a contact number in your phone for wildlife care. You never know when you'll need it.
Little Bug is scared and for the most part hiding in her pouch. She's a sweet little girl that is yet to realise she has 4 brothers waiting to meet her 🦘
I kept an eye out this morning for any mums that arrived at the breakfast buffet that may have been missing a baby but saw none. I know her heart is broken so I've asked Pa to send message that her daughter is safe to help soothe her wounded soul ❤️

That's Josephine standing up the back, surrounded by the mini mob snoozing around her.
One foot is healing really well, the other is taking its sweet time as the cut from the fence wire is right on the crease of her foot that bends when hopping. Despite it taking its time, it's getting there and she has made friends and loves her warm hut on chilly nights.
When I walked into the yard she stood up to see who was coming. Pebbles headed over for almonds whilst the others remained unfazed by the visit. In fact, we have to clean around them. No one moves for housekeeping 😁

Dear Mumma, she was only with me for 24 hours.
I got a phone call telling me where she was on the side of the road.
Bringing her back to the clinic she was assessed and treated.
We crossed our fingers as she had a teeny-tiny baby onboard but she was also seen with an at foot child.
Rescuers went looking for the child whilst I cared for Mumma.
Unfortunately, 24 hours later I could see she was fading and in pain so I made the made the decision to give her and her "jelly-bean" assisted passage through the veil. These decisions are always so, so hard and they weigh heavily on me as this is her LIFE and one she wants to live. For herself and her children.
But we need to find something positive in an otherwise dark situation.
So what I saw was a lady that had time to release her fear which she would not take with her or anchor her here. I had time to talk to her about her children and how they had not been forgotten or forsaken. She was warm and safe as she slowly drifted off under sedation and then transported to where she was found. There she was released from her earthly body and able to be found by her family to stop their wondering and allow them to grieve.
We are sure her at foot joey found their mob and we can only hope that an aunty will step up to care for them. They are at a size where they could survive without mum if they are of a strong nature.
These moments are always sombre, so afterwards Marie, Ruth and myself lit the fire, made lunch and sat around as the joeys played at our feet. A reminder that there are a lot of mums out there that count on wildlife carers to take in their babies.
We do what we do because we have been called to do it. This is the contract we signed before our incarnation. We do it because we love what we do and knew this before we even arrived ❤️ 🦘

Day 4 snd Ranger returns home from his first “big” walkabout.
He looks exhausted and alternated between snoozing on a mattress to scoffing down food and a bottle.
So proud of this little guy 💕

Welcome Marie from France 😊
Marie is a friend of Eva's and that is how she picked up where Eva left off.
Arriving a few days ago, every day she has commented with a huge grin; "I am so happy here. Thank you"
She is a natural at caring for the joeys and they follow her around the house when out of their pouches.
The joy this brings everyone permeates the house ❤️ 🦘

Benjamin, Vincent and Wilbur explored by themselves last night and found the small playpen off the joeys room.
Used to pick grass for patients, it was scheduled for a mow but the babies had so much fun in the long grass we'll leave it for a few more days.
They hopped around it like someone at the beach and seaweed touches your leg and suddenly you're in the midst of a cardio workout 😆
I wish I had filmed it but I was too busy laughing and enjoying the scene.

See anything odd about this photo? I took it about 10 minutes ago as the volunteers and I headed out to start chores.
We are enjoying some beautiful weather at the moment which is allowing us to do odd jobs around the shelter and be at peace at the same time.
Josephine hops excitedly along her fence line each morning in anticipation to join the mini mob. Her wounds are healing slowly, but healing nonetheless. The nights are very cold and she utilises her heated mattress every night.
Ranger, Bling, Barry and Jack are loving being part of the wildlings as I can see their joy and pride of being where they belong.
Now, back to the photo.........I've flipped it upside down! It's so clear and calm outside the refection is perfect.

Mia has been in the yards for three days now babysitting Dora’s little daughter. Dora is having a great time at Mia’s expense.
Mia has even allowed Dora’s daughter drink from her 💕

How the month has flown ❤️
Our lovely French traveller Eva leaves us today which is bitter sweet to say the least.
I am happy to know she leaves here with a deep love of the kangaroo people but I also know how heartbroken we are.
Eva fitted in perfectly and the joeys adore her!
There is not much she doesn't know how to do when it comes to caring for kangaroos.
She was very hands-on with the running of the shelter and assisted in the clinic at every opportunity.
Her company was lovely and her laughter beautiful to the ears.
We will all miss you Eva. See you when you return to check in on Benjamin (photographed) 🦘
