This month, Alan took us through the process of creating a group planting using Trident Maples.

He demonstrated how to select and position individual trees to create a natural-looking composition, while sharing his approach to spacing, trunk placement, depth and overall design.

It was a great demonstration of how a collection of individual trees can be brought together to create one cohesive bonsai landscape.

Word spread quickly around Bunnings that a bonsai workshop was on at the Garden Corner last Thursday. A large crowd of keen gardeners, several staff members, and even a curious puppy gathered to watch President Chris transform one chosen nursery plant into a bonsai. The finished tree was then presented to one lucky audience member. Hopefully, the demonstration has inspired a few future Newcastle Bonsai Society members.
