Hello, I’m Katie Ranclaud and I’m so excited to be part of the new leadership team here at the Newcastle Birth Movement.
As we begin this whole new chapter together, I wanted to introduce myself properly and share a bit about my world. I’m Newcastle born and raised, married to my husband Luke for 10 years, and an aunty to 9 nephews.
These days, I’m a stay at home mum to my two young girls (a 5 year old and a 5 month old). Both of my daughters came into the world through empowering homebirths. While homebirth was my personal path, I am passionate about every woman having a positive, empowering birth experience in whichever setting she chooses or requires. What matters most, to me, is that women feel respected, emotionally heard and supported in their decisions.
Outside of mum life, I’m a former business owner and property investor with a deep passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Catching up with other women over a hot coffee or a good meal is how I recharge.
My goal is to help keep this a safe, welcoming space where local families can lean on each other and grow together.
I can’t wait to share a cuppa with you soon.

I am also opening the preloved shop tomorrow Tuesday the 8th of September 2026 for extended hours from 10am-1230pm Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum | Newcastle

I am also excited to meet you in person at our Pregnancy Circle this Thursday at 10am Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum | Newcastle our guest Facilitator will be holding the circle for us Spiral and Seed - Amanda Curmi 🙏

Hi my name is Liz,
Im super honoured to be apart of the new team at the Newcastle Birth Movement.
I have a partner Dan of 15 years.
We are parents to our 1 year old daughter Aurora with our 2nd bundle of joy due end of December this year 2026.

I am a Registered Nurse with 10 years experience in medical, surgical & aged care sectors.
During my various studies I enjoyed midwifery student practice for 12 months and realized my passion in supporting women and famillies throughout each stage of their pregnancy, birth and post partum period. I love supporting and connecting with women and families who have experienced or are experiencing complex pregnancies, births and post partums.

I am also a Registered Counsellor supporting neurodiverse women.

I love nature and animals.
I love meeting new people.
I love watching a good rom com and having an orange juice or a chai latte.

I am so excited in supporting women and their famillies in those next stages of life, holding space, listening, encouraging, connecting creating joyful moments in those connections as well as collaborating with our community and healthcare sector to work together for women, children and their famillies.

Im excited to be standing side by side with 2 other mamas on the team Alice and Katie.

Im excited to see you at our upcoming pregnancy circles for the rest of 2026.

Thankyou for having us support you and our community.

If you have any questions, comments, queries or would like to collaborate with us please contact us the best way you feel comfortable,

Thankyou,

Yours
Faithfully,

Liz 🌟

Here we are!!! Your new leadership team for the Newcastle Birth Movement…Alice, Katie, and Liz.
We bring diverse professional backgrounds including: nursing, midwifery experience, business management, clinical nutrition, counselling and, of course, motherhood! (The finest skill of them all).

We want to give thanks to the team that worked SO hard for 35 years to keep a birth project happening in the Hunter. We know that the birth project has evolved many, many times with different flavors, different teams, different people, different key missions. We are excited as the new team to bring our fresh skills, wisdom, experience, goals and missions to the project; now that the past leadership has completed.

We feel lucky, blessed and privileged to be leading this new era. We appreciate you - the followers and members here and any different emotional reactions are welcomed. We are here for you, through any big feelings that might come up. We are here to support our community and we feel open and curious as we journey together and get to know each other.

We look forward to supporting this fast growing community, women and families. Our aim as a team is to focus on joy, celebration of life, celebration of relationships, connection, and community. We strive for collaboration; working side by side with all care providers; all teams that care for women, birth, pregnancy and parenting. We provide support that is person centered, evidence based and authentic. Drawing on the wisdom & experience from the team and our community of families, mothers, and all care providers.

Wow, here I sit, deciding what to write - to an audience, I’ve journeyed with for nearly eleven years of my life. as I say farewell - “and thanks for all the fish”! (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)

But I digress…. Or procrastinate?… WHAT do I REALLY WANT to SAY?

After this post, I will no longer have access to this page. I am gifting it onwards.

(I am gifting the ENTIRE project onwards!)

I have given this project a whole decade of ME.

For good and for worse.

And now it is time for the new wave, the new spring, the new women and mothers, to take their control, have their new approaches - their passions, their goals, their missions.

A fresh, clean-slate.

My reputation will be mine to claim back for me. My actions will be MINE.

And the Birth Project, that started 25 years before me, will continue 25 years after me, and I will become a faint, distant, memory. An eleven-year blip, in time.

Whispers will speak of the era where a mad woman, a wild witch, ran the project and was “dangerous” … (how dare she teach women their medical, legal and human rights?!! and give women complete FREEDOM to make their OWN choices for their own bodies and their own babies!)

(and even more horrified whispers… how dare she question the government vaccine schedule!!!!)

And what other words would be whispered in the breeze?

Take your chance to comment your words below!!!

Your final chance to say to me, anything on your mind - including any heartfelt thanks or messages of good wishes!

For the next two days, let’s get as MANY comments as we can, to help ALL community SEE this announcement and know the update!
I won’t be at the page as NBM, but I will visit as my own personal profile and can comment and reply to each of you! It will be a really lovely ritual for me, part of the grief process of handing over the HUGE blood sweat and tears I’ve put in.

Then soon…. you’ll notice my FULL absence.

Getting out of the way completely…..

My biggest gift to the project – today - with love - my RETIREMENT!

A chance to give NBM a whole new life, with new values, new policies, new team.

Winter becomes spring.

And ready for spring, soon the NEW Team will make their first post and take over FULLY at that moment.

And for me, for this old, wild, outspoken, opinionated, peri-menopausal woman? What autumn harvest will I reap? What wisdom role will I fulfill?

I’m at first I’m RESTING….

But I don’t think I’m very good at that … lol, and I can already feel new things calling me… time with my daughter, time travelling Australia – taking my birth wisdom and mentorship National. I’d love to visit and support Doulas, Pregnant Women and Private Educators in small country towns… if this excites you, as much as it does me!!! Perhaps you would like to Billet us and our van, in your yard, for a 1-3 night stay?…. Comment to let me know where you are! I would LOVE to connect more, face to face, with the wider Australian network of birth workers AND mothers!

Key Summary:
• A HUGE, HUGE, heartfelt thank you for EVERYTHING you’ve ever done to cheer me on and keep this project alive…. You have all been WONDERFUL for your various human reasons. (even the naysayers and doubters, you often spurred me on with tons of newfound energy!)
• I am still available at my usual mobile phone number and personal FB profile.
• I am still in Newcastle, NSW supporting women and birth for at least a few more months… or more!!! AND, I will be back in Newy periodically, so still send me pregnant friends to support!
• I am still a giving, caring, person, so ask for help anytime! I am not abandoning you!
• I am shaving the hair off my head this Sunday to FUNDRAISE for the Birth Project!!! PLEASE donate at the event at Humanitix… I am aiming to raise $2000 as a parting gift to the new team specifically for them to FINALLY do the paperwork to REGISTER as a Not-For-Profit (admin was NOT my strong suit!!!!)
• Massive EXTRA favour… if you left me a glowing REVIEW at the NBM Google business page… it is not attached to me anymore… I would love the same review at my Natalie Meade Birth Doula page!!! I will share the link if you comment “review” !!! Thank you Legends!!!

And for those who have made assumptions about me, judgements about me and negative comments about me.

If you’d walked in my shoes and knew what I know.

I believe you’d thank me for the things I’ve said, the support I’ve provided and the preventative and supportive actions I’ve implemented, offered, and put within reach for women (but you don’t know what happens behind the scenes). And you know what they say about assumptions.

Warm wishes to you all,

Natalie Meade/Nat Meade
