Thank you to St Laurence's College - official who dropped in this week with a huge supply of pantry items!

The need is always increasing, and most of us will never really understand what it means to people who have nowhere else to turn, that there are people ready to help when you need to feed your family.

To the whole Laurie's community who contributed to this $2,000 gift - THANK YOU! Every item makes a difference. On behalf of all those who will benefit, we are so, so grateful.

If you'd like to connect about supporting our pantry supply, please reach out.

As this National Volunteer Week comes to an end, we want to say a very big and heartfelt thank you to the incredible volunteers who make the work of the Romero Centre possible. While many were not present, it was a joy to celebrate and recognise the contribution of those who joined us for high tea this week!

Every shared conversation, every class, every form filled out and grocery items shared helps create a community where people seeking asylum are met with dignity and compassion.

Our incredible volunteers don’t just give their time, they help people feel seen, valued and welcomed as they rebuild their lives in safety and belonging.

Thank you for walking alongside our Romero community with generosity and care. We are deeply grateful for each and every one who gives of their time, talent and treasure. We genuinely cannot do what we do without you.

Last week we celebrated Mengistu Hailu - and reminisced, laughed (and cried a little) as we farewelled him into a new chapter.

Mengistu has been part of so, so many lives and stories in his ten years at Romero. First as a Case Coordinator, and in recent years as Centre Manager. He has led this team through lots of change and carried all the uncertainty that accompanies being a community-funded organisation with dignity, integrity, compassion and faith.

Mengistu, there are no words to do justice to all you've given to Romero. We are so grateful, and we look forward to connecting in a new way in the coming years.

Thank you.

This June, join us again for our annual Welcome Walk as we walk together in compassion, solidarity and hope alongside people seeking asylum and refugees in our community, while raising much-needed funds to support our services.

It was so good recently to have a long-time friend and supporter, Fr Pan, drop in with some much-needed donations.

Fr Pan has a long history of advocating for refugees and asylum seekers and we know of many families and individuals who have been supported personally by him. A truly authentic human being, Fr Pan is committed to social justice and leaves no stone unturned to attain it. We are so grateful for all he does and for these moments to connect and catch up.

On Saturday evening, in partnership with Micah Projects, we held our first Community Dinner in 2 years - a wonderful celebration of community, support and culture that brings together supporters from all over Brisbane to celebrate and connect over shared purpose.

A really special part of this event is that the food is all planned, prepared and served by clients and volunteers of the centre (alongside countless hours of service from the Romero staff!). Just under 80 guests were treated to a Latin American feast of entrees and taco platters followed by tiramisu, and there was food in abundance!

We are so grateful for everyone who joins us in supporting people seeking asylum, without you we cannot what we do. THANK YOU ❤
