The brigade (alongside Vicpol, Ambulance VIC and SES) received a very warm welcome at Lardner public school for national "Thank a first responder day"... a great opportunity to chat with the kids about what roles emergency services carry out in the community.

If you don't have it on your smart phone yet, it is worth installing the Emergency+ app.

Developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners. The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services.

The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners.

AUSALERT - Further Information

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.

In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

Today marks the 17th anniversary of the February 2009 bushfires.

Countless communities were affected, and we extend our thoughts to those who continue to feel the impacts to this day.

We remember the 173 people who lost their lives, the 400+ people who were injured and the thousands of emergency service personnel who responded to these fires.

Together, we remember 🎗️
