Trooper Jock (John William) Henderson was one of the originals in the 4th light Horse Regiment. Jock served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. His page on the Association’s website is https://www.4thlighthorse.com/stories_jock_henderson.html
He was a prolific letter writer. “I could write a volume about Gallipoli, but it would all be censored" he included in one letter to his father.
Thankfully, the family saved those letters. Jock's great niece, Susan Meyer (4thLHRMA President) has gone to great pains to carefully transcribe the letters and present them in a timeline along with background information and photos. The result is now available publicly as Susan's new, limited edition, hard-cover 320 page book "Remembering Jock Henderson. Letters To Home From The Great War". 1914 - 1918."
Copies of this long awaited book are now going quickly. The price is only $40 plus $20 postage. Secure your copy by contacting Susan at [email protected] or ring 0426 202 119.

The Annual General Meeting of the 4th Light Horse Regiment Memorial Association was held in the boardroom of the Box Hill RSL on Sunday 31 May. We are grateful that Lindsay Burke from the 4th/19th Prince of Wales Regiment Association volunteered to facilitate the meeting and preside over the elections.
The office bearers for 2026/27 are Susan Meyer - President, John Mansfield - Vice President, Maggie Michels - Secretary and Heather Corrie - Treasurer.
The meeting generated quite a bit of positive idea sharing. These themes will be further developed as the year progresses.

Kerryn Ellis, an adminstrator with a wealth of experience, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for The Shrine of Remembrance. The 4thLHRMA would like to welcome her to this position.
It is easy to think of The Shrine as just a very special building but we have to remember that there is a dedicated team that manages the complex and its operations.
The Opening Ceremony for the Shrine took place on 11 Nov 1934. The original returned men of the 4th Light Horse Regiment felt compelled to honour the memory of their comrades who never returned from places like Gallipoli, France and the Middle East so the Association held its first Pilgrimage to the Shrine on the first Sunday of Feb in 1935.
The Memorial Association is committed to continuing the “first Sunday in Feb” tradition and we work closely with the Shrine staff each year to ensure that this popular Pilgrimage is properly and reverently conducted.

Did you know that a 4th Light Horse Trooper won the Easter Stawell Gift?
With both Easter & the Gift getting closer this seems like a good time to publish Barney Cashmore's page in the Stories & Pictures section of the 4th Light Horse Memorial Association website.
Barney survived Gallipoli, Beersheba, wounds and diseases to get home to Australia. The winnings from the Stawell Gift helped pay for the butcher shop in Gunbower. The picture of Barney mounted is proudly displayed in the Gunbower Hotel.
Click this safe link to read Barney's story - https://www.4thlighthorse.com/stories_barney_cashmore.html
And then send us information and pictures about your own 4th Light Horse soldier. They all should be properly honoured.
