Mernda Community Garden at Carome The Mernda Community Garden at Carome provides a space for community members from the Whittlesea area to come together and have some gardening fun!

The Mernda Community Garden at Carome was established in 2010 and is located within the culturally significant and heritage listed Carome Homestead. Set in paddocks and perched above the Plenty River, the garden provides open space and views that recall the area’s rural past. The garden consists of member plots, communal plots and an orchard of various fruit trees.

Our members are all residents

of the City of Whittlesea and enjoy coming together with like-minded people to learn, grow and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment. We cultivate in an organic manner and employ many permaculture practices to ensure that we garden as mindfully as possible whilst still maintaining high yielding plots.

Everyone is welcome to attend our working bees which are held on the first Saturday of each month, and please contact us if you are interested in becoming a member!

🌱 Community gardens grow thanks to community support! 🌱

A huge thank you to Meats at Laurimar for their ongoing support of our community garden.

Each month they generously supply the sausages for our Working Bee BBQs, helping bring volunteers together after a morning of planting, weeding, building and caring for our shared space.

Their support helps create a welcoming atmosphere where neighbours can connect, share knowledge and enjoy being part of our growing community.
