This week, your donation can make twice the difference! πŸ’šπŸ’š

For the next 7 days, every donation to Kevin Heinze GROW will be matched dollar-for-dollar by EthicalJobs.com.au.

Earlier this year, a fallen tree at our Coburg site left a significant part of our nursery unusable. While the damage was unexpected, the impact extends far beyond the physical space.

Our nurseries are where participants build confidence, learn practical skills, connect with community, and find routine and purpose through nature.

As a small organisation, recovering from unexpected setbacks like this isn't easy. That's why your support today matters so much.

From now until midday Thursday 18 June, every dollar you donate will have twice the impact.

πŸ’š $50 = $100
πŸ’š $100 = $200
πŸ’š $250 = $500

If you've been thinking about supporting Kevin Heinze GROW, now is the time.

Donate today and help us continue creating spaces where people can learn, connect and thrive 🌿

πŸ’ͺ A big thank you to the amazing team from Bunnings who spent the day at KHG Doncaster helping us rebuild some of our ageing garden beds! πŸ› οΈ

They arrived armed with fresh timber, tools and lots of energy, and worked hard to improve our garden spaces – which will include rebuilding and raising some garden beds for greater accessibility,

Josh and Deacon took their roles as quality control and site supervisors very seriously, keeping a close eye on the work throughout the day πŸ‘€πŸ˜

We’re so grateful to the volunteers from multiple Bunnings stores who gave their time and enthusiasm to support our community. Together, you helped us create more accessible and enjoyable spaces for our participants to learn, connect and grow πŸ’š

Belonging grows in many ways πŸŒΏπŸ’š

When people think about therapeutic horticulture, they often think about plants. But for many of our participants, one of the most meaningful outcomes is a sense of belonging.

Belonging is having a place where people know your name. It's being missed when you're away. It's working alongside others towards a shared goal, celebrating successes together, and feeling valued for who you are.

In our gardens, relationships grow alongside the plants. Through shared experiences, meaningful roles, and connection to both people and place, participants become part of a community.

That's the power of therapeutic horticulture. Not just growing gardens, but growing connection, confidence and belonging.

Every Tuesday, a small crew from KHG heads to Whitten Oval to maintain the indoor plants throughout the Bulldogs headquarters πŸŒΏβ€οΈπŸ’™

The tasks involved – ranging from watering, pruning, fertilising, rearranging, propagating, researching and mapping plants – all help our participants to build horticulture knowledge and develop skills towards their individual goals, including open employment.

Therapeutic horticulture is all about connecting with the wellbeing benefits of gardening and engaging in meaningful personal development. And of course, there's always plenty of footy talk along the way πŸ‰πŸŒ±

A day in the life of KHG: olive harvest time! πŸ«’πŸŒΏ

Recently, participants gathered around our olive tree for a huge olive harvest! There were plenty of laughs as we shook branches, caught olives that fell easily, and gave a little more encouragement to those that didn't want to come down πŸ˜„

True to our KHG values, the harvest was a very communal affair, with everyone pitching in to collect the olives that will now be preserved and stored to enjoy later on. Moments like these remind us of the joy that can be found in working collaboratively, sharing experiences, and connecting through nature ✨.

A peaceful new oasis is taking shape at our Coburg site! πŸ’§πŸŒΏ

Over the past year, participants have been carefully restoring and reimagining the old pond that was already here when we moved in. With a brand new liner, solar pumps keeping the water flowing, and native aquatic plants including water lillies now thriving, the space has been brought back to life.

Participants have also been building and planting the surrounding garden to create a calm and mindful place to sit, reflect, and connect with nature. Filled with beautiful local native plants chosen to provide food and shelter for pollinators and native birds, the pond area is becoming a vibrant habitat for both people and wildlife.

Watch this space... 🌱🐦

A big thank you to Bendigo Community Bank – Doncaster East & Templestowe Village for their generous support in funding the implementation of KHG’s new SupporterHub database. πŸ’š

This investment is already making a meaningful difference, enabling us to better connect with our community, share the impact of our work and support people living with disability by improving how we engage supporters, build partnerships, and secure sustainable funding for our programs.

We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and the lasting impact it will create. 🌿

For Ange, volunteering at Kevin Heinze GROW started with witnessing the joy and connection a participant experienced during a visit over 20 years ago πŸ’œ

β€œThat joy stayed with me,” she shared. β€œI thought, maybe I’ll volunteer.”

Two decades later, Ange is still part of the KHG community – drawn to the welcoming environment, meaningful connections and the simple joy of spending time in the garden 🌱

β€œWhat makes KHG special is that it’s not about production or how much you get done – it’s about the experience. You feel like you belong after such a short time.”

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating volunteers like Ange who help create spaces where people feel connected, supported and valued every day.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, meet wonderful people and spend time in nature, we’d love to welcome you to the KHG volunteer community 🌿
