The Bungendore Dementia Alliance (BDA) and Upper Shoalhaven Landcare are providing tree propagation kits for carers and people living with dementia this October.
🌿 The simple activities of filling the pot, covering the seed and watering provide gentle cognitive stimulation without being cognitively threatening or demanding
🌿 Planting and caring for the seedlings is a pleasurable way of exercising… a reason to move, be active and go outside
🌿 The tactile experience of planting, watering, and handling soil and seeds can evoke recollections of similar activities from childhood or in adulthood. It can help trigger conversations about past experiences.
🌿 The Bungendore Dementia Alliance will distribute propagation kits in September and October – containing soil, seeds, pots and a simple instruction book. Members of BDA will provide ongoing support throughout the growing period. There will also be a private Facebook Group for questions and answers, photo sharing and feedback.
