Help Protect Wild Birds

Most important actions:

🚫 Do not feed wild birds
Feeding stations concentrate large numbers of birds in one place, making it easier for diseases to spread between individuals. BirdLife Australia specifically advises against feeding wild birds during the current H5 bird flu situation.

💧 Keep bird baths clean
If you provide water, scrub and refill bird baths regularly so they do not become points of disease transmission.

📞 Report sick or dead birds
If you find multiple sick or dead birds, do not touch them. Record the location, take photos from a distance, and report them via the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888.

🐕🐈 Keep pets away from sick wildlife
Dogs and cats should not be allowed to investigate or consume dead birds or other wildlife. H5N1 has infected many mammal species overseas.

Add colour, fragrance and flavour to your home garden with fresh herbs and edible flowers.

Some of these also serve other useful purposes in the garden, such as companion plants, pest repellent plants, hedging, or simply as attractive plants throughout the garden.

Many culinary herbs are annual plants (or are treated as annuals in some regions), while others just keep on keeping on for years!
What’s more, they are some of the easiest of plants to grow and propagate - most will strike readily from cuttings (which is the quickest way to propagate new plants), but also from seed.
