The Dante Alighieri Society Brisbane (DAS Brisbane) is a non-profit community association which promotes the appreciation and understanding of Italian language and culture. DAS Brisbane supports positive and constructive interpersonal and intercultural communication and welcomes comments and posts on its page. DAS Brisbane expects all such comments and posts to be respectful of persons and cultures. DAS Brisbane expects users not to post any content that is, or could be deemed to be:

Meet baritone JIA-PENG YEUNG performing at 'Viaggio in Italia sulle note dei grandi compositori'.

Jia-Peng is an Australian baritone hailing from Cairns in Far North Queensland and holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours Class I) from The University of Queensland (UQ) under the tutelage of Dr Shaun Brown.

Jia-Peng was the recipient of the Ethel Osbourne Prize for Voice, the Margaret Nickson Prize for Voice and Piano, the Open Vocal Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition, the Jessica Pratt Encouragement Award, and the Rosemary Gunn Encouragement Award. Jia-Peng was a member of the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program from 2021 to 2024 and joins the Opera Queensland Young Artist Program for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Performance highlights include The Woodcutter in Christopher Cerrone’s ‘In a Grove’, Simone in the Cuskelly Summer School Opera Program and the UQ production of Puccini’s ‘Gianni Schicchi’. As a member of the OQ Chorus, Jia-Peng has performed in 'Rusalka', 'La Cenerentola', ‘La Bohème’, and collaborations with Opera Australia for Wagner’s ‘Götterdämmerung’, Circa for Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’, with Brisbane Festival/Victorian Opera for Jonathan Mills’ Australian opera ‘Eucalyptus’.

Meet mezzo-soprano Ailysh Ryan performing at 'Viaggio in Italia sulle note dei grandi compositori'.

2026 Melba Opera Trust Artist, Aylish Ryan completed a Bachelor of Music degree with distinction at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 2024. She was an artist in the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program 2023-24, and joined the Opera Queensland Young Artist Program in 2025. That year she also travelled to Italy to take part in the Andrea Bocelli Foundation Masterclass di Alto Perfezionamento in Canto Lirico.

Role highlights include The Kitchen Boy in OQ’s production of ‘Rusalka’, and Orfeo in ‘Underworld: A Journey to Hell’ and ‘Back’ directed by Michael Gow and conducted by Johannes Fritzsch. In 2024, she worked with Stuart Maunder and Felice Venanzoni in the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program’s Opera Scenes and Lindy Hume and Johannes Fritzsch as the Mistress of the Novices in ‘Suor Angelica’.

An Opera Australia Regional Vocal Scholarship recipient (2019), during her studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, Aylish received the Professor Emeritus Jan Delpratt AM Prize in Classical Voice, Victoria Chalmers Education Award, Elizabeth Muir Memorial Award and Sir Mostyn Hanger Opera Prize.

Che concerto stupendo quello degli Ars Nova Napoli al Mirrorball Ministries nell’ambito della rassegna musicale di BAr BAzAAr. 🎶
La serata è iniziata con l'energia travolgente di Zumpa e Taranta Meanjin/Brisbane per poi proseguire con i bravissimi e simpaticissimi musicisti napoletani, che ci hanno regalato una serata davvero speciale!
Che bello avervi avuto qui! ❤️ Speriamo di rivederci presto… chissà, magari proprio a Napoli.

A big thank you to Dr Adriana Diaz for such an engaging and thought-provoking presentation at our 2026 Castellano Memorial Lecture. It was a pleasure to welcome Adriana and to share an evening of stimulating discussion about language, gender and the ways Italian continues to evolve.
