The full name of Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve is the ‘Whitecliffs to Camerons Bight Foreshore Reserve’; it is approximately six kilometres long and is located near the southern tip of the Mornington Peninsula. The reserve is Crown Land and is overseen by the Whitecliffs to Camerons Bight Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management on behalf of the Minister for the Department of Environment, Land, W

ater, and Planning (DELWP). The committee is guided by it’s Coastal Marine Management Plan (CMMP) that will provide strategic direction for the next 5 years enabling a planned approach to ongoing maintenance and upgrades to the foreshore reserve. We employ a foreshore team to manage the day-to-day operations and implement actions within the CMMP. The management of this foreshore reserve is completely independent of Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and Parks Victoria, with no rates or government funding supporting our activities; the majority of our revenue is generated by the operation of foreshore camping. We operate as a not-for-profit and as such, all revenue generated is used for the enhancement of the Foreshore Reserve through various environmental, infrastructure, and educational programs. The Committee is comprised of members of the community with skillsets relevant to foreshore management and meets once a month.

A huge thank you to the Students Action Council from St Joseph’s Primary for helping us plant 300 indigenous plants at Whitecliffs.

Their hard work will help create habitat for native wildlife, support biodiversity, and strengthen our coastline for years to come.

A special shout-out to Ranger Dave, who propagated every plant that went into the ground.

Some good news for the foreshore 🌊

We're replacing the ageing Flinders West toilet block (near Tyrone Ave) with a brand new, fully accessible facility. The project is jointly funded by a DEECA Asset Upgrades Grant and a matching contribution from the Committee of Management.

To plan for rising sea levels and storm surge, the amenity block will be located closer to Point Nepean Road and the baytrail will be re-routed for a smoother journey when walking or cycling the foreshore.

Works begin Monday 18 May and we expect to have the new amenity block open by late June.

While works are underway, the Flinders West toilets will be temporarily closed. You can find the nearest alternatives at:
📍 Amenity block opposite Blairgowrie shops
📍 Rye Public Toilet opposite Dundas Street/Point Nepean intersection
📍 Stringer amentiy block, in Camerons Bight campground.

These works will also impact access to the baytrail, please follow all signage and staff direction.

Thanks for bearing with us, the new facility will be a big improvement for everyone who uses the reserve.

Interested in the Flinders East public area? Planning has commenced for a replacement amenity to complement the new barbecue shelter. More to come.

Look out for the flowering Moonahs!
The Southern Peninsula is iconic for its beautiful Moonah woodlands. At this time of year, you’ll notice their white to cream-coloured flowers, arranged in delicate spikes at the ends of branches — which continue to grow even after flowering.
These remarkable trees can live for centuries, quietly shaping our coastal landscape for generations.
If you see one, why not snap a photo and log it on iNaturalist?
Your observation contributes to citizen science and helps researchers and the community better understand and protect our incredible coastal environment.
