Perfect winter training weather! ☀️ Last weekend, our crew made the most of that glorious sunshine off Blairgowrie to practice some of our most critical skills – towing and rafting operations. These are the bread and butter of what we do out here, and staying sharp year-round is essential.

As a bonus, we had front-row seats to the races of sailing races – there's something special about sharing the water with our local sailing community.
Big thanks to our volunteers who showed up to train, and to all the boaties out there keeping the peninsula's water community thriving. 🛥️

A huge well done and congratulations to everyone at on being named Lifesaving Victoria’s Club of the Year and receiving the prestigious Sir Frank Beaurepaire Shield.

To achieve this honour for only the third time in the Club’s 76-year history, and among 57 lifesaving clubs across Victoria, is an outstanding achievement.

What makes this recognition particularly special is that it reflects the contribution of an entire club community — patrol members, trainers and assessors, officials, volunteers, parents, staff and the generations of members who have helped shape Portsea SLSC into the club it is today.

From all of us at Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad, congratulations to everyone who has played a part, both this season and throughout the Club’s proud history. A thoroughly deserved recognition of an extraordinary whole-of-club effort.

Well done, Portsea SLSC!

Thanks for being such an awesome part of our water safety community. 💙

🚁 Last weekend, eight of our crew headed inland to Lake Eppalock for SAREX 2.0 – and what a learning experience it was!

We worked alongside SES, Marine Search and Rescue, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, CFA, Coast Guard and specialist K9 teams through realistic multi-agency scenarios. From simulated aircraft incidents to vehicle rescues, every drill sharpened our skills and strengthened the connections we rely on when things get real.

Training like this is gold – it tests our equipment, our comms, and most importantly, our teamwork. Because when someone's in trouble on the water, we need to trust each other completely. A huge thanks to all the emergency services who made it happen. 💙

🛠️ Big shout-out to Dean for donating his late father's tools to our Rye Op Shop – what a thoughtful way to honour his memory. And wow, the local crew came through! The shop was buzzing with folks keen to add to their collections. 💙

A massive thanks to Pam and the team at our Op Shop for keeping the shelves stocked and community spirit alive. Every purchase supports our rescue operations right here on the peninsula.

Over the weekend Sally and Melanie represented SPRS and joined an amazing afternoon tea with SES Hastings , celebrating women in emergency services across the peninsula. 💙

We got to network and swap stories with some seriously dedicated crews – CFA, Coast Guard, Lifesaving Victoria, Search and Rescue Dogs, SES teams, and more.

It's days like these that remind us we're not alone out here. We're part of a bigger network of volunteers and professionals all working toward the same goal: keeping our peninsula safe. Big thanks to everyone who showed up and shared their passion. 🌊 Thanks Also to our local member for joining us, great to get your support.

🎉 Nearly 60 years. And we're just warming up.

As July draws to a close, we've loved taking you on this little trip down memory lane — from our earliest days as a small group of passionate local volunteers, to the modern, capable rescue service we are today.

Two rescue boats. A dedicated crew. Coverage from Safety Beach to Queenscliff. Available every single day of the year.

All of it made possible because of this community. 💙

Our 60th anniversary is just around the corner, and we want YOU to be part of it. Whether you're a local boater, a diver, a weekend sailor, or simply someone who loves the Mornington Peninsula — there's a place for you in our story.

Follow us, share our page, and help us reach even more people who love these waters as much as we do.

Thank you for being part of Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad's journey. The best chapter is still ahead. 🌊

🚁 **From Helicopter to Speedboat – Our Rescue Evolution**

Back in the day, our helicopter was a game-changer. It meant we could reach people faster, scan wider waters, and bring real hope when things got serious. That bird was iconic to our service – a lifeline for anyone in trouble out here.

Times change, and so do we. While we've retired the helicopter, we've doubled down on what works: two powerful rescue boats ready to launch 24/7. And guess what? We're taking possession of a brand new boat late this month! 🛥️

This isn't us stepping back – it's us stepping up differently. Faster response times, better equipment, and the same unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe on the water.

We're grateful for every chapter of our journey, and we're pumped about what's next. Because whether it's a helicopter or a speedboat, our mission stays the same: being there when you need us.

Thanks for being part of our story! 💙

**More Than Just Rescues – We're a Community** 🎉

Check out our throwback fundraising snaps from the '70s and '90s! Our volunteers have always known the secret: build friendships first, and everything else follows.

These events weren't just about the funds (though they kept our boats ready 24/7). They were about mates coming together, looking out for each other on the water and on land.

That spirit's still alive today. When you spot a SPRS event, come say hi – you're supporting water safety AND joining something pretty special. 💙

🚤 Now & Then — Our Boats Through the Years

From a single modest rescue vessel and a helicopter to two fully equipped modern rescue boats — the story of our fleet is the story of our community's trust and generosity.

Over six decades, every upgrade, every new piece of equipment, every improvement has been made possible by the incredible support of our sponsors, donors, and the local community of the Mornington Peninsula.

Today, our boats are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — covering Safety Beach all the way to Queenscliff, including Port Phillip Heads. Whether it's a yacht in distress, a diver in trouble, or a jet ski that just won't start — we're on our way. 🙌

A huge THANK YOU to every person and business who has ever supported us. You are part of this story too. 💙 To our current sponsors - We thank you . Also our local Op Shop in role which does an amazing job selling local donations to support our operations.
