Last week, we had the privilege of attending the receiving the "Keys to the City" presentation hosted by the Borough of Queenscliffe. What an incredible honour to be part of such a meaningful celebration! ๐ŸŽ‰

It was brilliant to connect with our community partners and reflect on the amazing work happening right here on our waters. Events like this remind us why we do what we do โ€“ keeping everyone safe on our waters

Happy National Volunteer Week!

This week we celebrate and thank the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to support our communities.

A special thank you to our amazing volunteers at Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad. Whether responding on the water, training, fundraising, helping in the Op Shop, or working behind the scenes, your dedication keeps our squad strong and our community safer.

We are so grateful for everything you do.

Itโ€™s all about the training.

This week, our new crew members were practising lifesaving techniques, learning the appropriate time to set off flares and how to deploy a life raft.

Luckily, we were at the local pool, Yawa, where the water temperature was a little warmer than the current bay temperature. But in an emergency situation, the temperature wonโ€™t be the priority โ€” the safety of the people involved will be.

A big thank you to Mornington Peninsula Boomerang Bags for their recent donation to Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad.

Launched by the Sorrento Community Centre in 2017, this wonderful Sew Sustainable project creates reusable shopping bags from upcycled and donated fabrics, helping reduce single-use plastics in our community.

SPRS Op Shop is proud to support Boomerang Bags by passing on suitable donated fabric and selling their bags in our shop.

Thank you for supporting our rescue boat operations and helping care for our beautiful environment. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

On Friday, some of our team swapped time on the water for time on the golf course to take part in the Heartbreak Cup Charity Match Eagle Ridge Golf Course

The weather was a little inclement, but with our wet weather gear ready to go, we were prepared to hit the greens!

We had two teams playing, and it was a fantastic day full of fun, teamwork and plenty of laughs โ€” all while raising money for Rosebud Hospital.

A big thank you to everyone involved for making it such a great day. โ›ณ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

We know we often talk about the difference our volunteers make, but this week was another real reminder of just how important that support can be.

We were called to a broken-down boat about 6km off Dromana, with an elderly gentleman on board. He had only just paid $3,500 to have the boat serviced, but sometimes things simply happen.

On his way home, the engine failed and left him stranded on the water. By the time we reached him, he was very distressed โ€” and to make things worse, he had also lost his glasses in the ordeal.

Our crew were able to help, get him home safely, and bring a very stressful situation to a calm ending.

He was so grateful he even offered to buy us a beer at the RSL โ€” a lovely gesture from a great local.

This is what community is all about, and we are always proud to be there when people need us.

OMGโ€ฆ itโ€™s actually starting to look like a boat! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿšค

We promised to keep you updated on the progress of our new boat, and it is amazing to see it all starting to come together.

Great progress has been made, with most of the cabin structure now welded into place. The next steps are to complete the remaining seam welding on the dashboard and then cut out the forward window next week.

We canโ€™t wait to see this incredible project get closer and closer to the water. It has been fantastic watching the transformation each month, and weโ€™re so excited to share the journey with our community.

Stay tuned โ€” thereโ€™s still plenty more to come!
