We know we often talk about the difference our volunteers make, but this week was another real reminder of just how important that support can be.
We were called to a broken-down boat about 6km off Dromana, with an elderly gentleman on board. He had only just paid $3,500 to have the boat serviced, but sometimes things simply happen.
On his way home, the engine failed and left him stranded on the water. By the time we reached him, he was very distressed — and to make things worse, he had also lost his glasses in the ordeal.
Our crew were able to help, get him home safely, and bring a very stressful situation to a calm ending.
He was so grateful he even offered to buy us a beer at the RSL — a lovely gesture from a great local.
This is what community is all about, and we are always proud to be there when people need us.
