Meet Megan Kent, representing Callide Valley Show and the Central Queensland Sub-Chamber at the 2026 Queensland Rural Ambassador State Finals.

Agriculture has shaped Megan’s life from an early age. Growing up on her family’s cattle property, establishing her own Brahman stud at just 16, and now working with producers across Queensland through the stockfeed industry have strengthened her passion for beef production, genetics and the future of agriculture.

For Megan, rural leadership means taking initiative, showing up for your community, bringing people together and creating opportunities for others to learn, contribute and grow.

It was wonderful to have a number of our Callide Valley Show Society committee members attend the Central Queensland Sub Chamber Finals dinner last Saturday.

These events are a fantastic opportunity to catch up with fellow show volunteers, support our entrants, and celebrate the young people who are helping ensure the future of our agricultural shows remains strong.

Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to give their time and energy to our show society. Volunteers are the backbone of our shows, and we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support.

The Show Office will be closed for the remainder of the school holidays and will reopen on Tuesday the 14th July 2026. Emails may not be responded to until then however we still encourage you to send in any applications for the Secretary position and any other urgent matters.

We also wish to congratulate the Callide Valley Show Sub Committee for hosting a wonderful event on Saturday for the CQ Sub Chamber Showgirl Awards and Rural Ambassador Awards regional final. Many thanks also to the businesses and groups that hosted the touring group and supporters.

🌾 Central Queensland Sub Chamber Finals – Showgirl & Rural Ambassador Competition 🌾

On Saturday, we were proud to host the 2026 Central Queensland Sub Chamber Finals for the Queensland Country Life Showgirl and Rural Ambassador awards.

The day provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Callide Valley and some of the many treasures our region has to offer, while giving entrants the chance to learn more about our local industries, communities and people.

Our itinerary included:
🚜 A tour of the Goos Herb Farm led by James Goos
☕ Morning tea at the Red Steer Thangool
🐄 A visit to Drumburl, where Stuart, Katie and Eva Barrett shared their story and insights into life on the land
🏛️ Lunch at the Biloela Heritage Complex
🎤 Interviews conducted by our judging

The day was rounded off with a celebration dinner, the public speaking component of the competition, and the announcement of our winners.
