Inclusion and safety in schools must include support, training and resources for staff.
There’s currently a Queensland Parliament petition calling to reinstate LGBTIQA+ support, training & resources for state school staff.
If you are a parent, caregiver or have school aged children in your life this should matter to you.
When staff are well supported, resourced and receive training to support students and each other it provides better outcomes everyday for the children in these staff members care.

There’s currently a Queensland Parliament petition calling for LGBTIQ+ inclusion support, training and resources for state school staff to be reinstated.
Why does that matter to our families?
Because when staff are properly supported and trained, it can affect really everyday moments for our kids.
It can mean a teacher knowing how to talk naturally about a child having two mums or two dads, instead of making them feel like their family needs explaining.
It can mean school forms, classroom activities and conversations being more inclusive of different family structures.
It can mean staff knowing how to respond properly if a child is teased, bullied or excluded because of their family, sexuality or gender identity.
It can mean an LGBTQ+ young person having a teacher or school leader who actually knows how to support them, rather than feeling unsure or avoiding the conversation altogether.
And it can also mean LGBTIQ+ teachers and staff feeling safer and better supported in their own workplace, which flows into the culture of the whole school community.
These supports might happen behind the scenes, but our kids can absolutely feel the difference when the adults around them have the knowledge and confidence to create genuinely inclusive spaces.
The petition is aiming for 10,000 signatures.
