Dolly Parton was a lot of things to a lot of people - A country musician, actor, philanthropist & business person.

The common thread in all her work was advocacy - from the probably millions of dollars she spent to help individuals, schools, businesses, and research to the one bought up the most - Imagination Library - a free book gifting program you can access across the world including in Australia.

Literacy not just nurtures our critical thinking and intelligence but our empathy and compassion.

Dolly was a staunch ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. We’ve seen so many posts over the last day crediting her work, inspiration and the pure joy & kindness she put out into the world as the reason people are alive, living their most joyous uncloseted lives.. she gave people the right words, attitudes, and mindsets to acknowledge that each of us deserves to love & be loved, treated with kindness and dignity, and above all to be visible and included.

If Dolly had a superpower its her compassion and kindness.

Rest easy Dolly, you can finally lay the rhinestones down.. but only if you want to đŸ©·

The 2026 Census is happening on the 11 August, thats THIS TUESDAY. **You can do it ahead of time if you know who will be staying your household on Tuesday night.**

This will be the FIRST time LGBTQIA+ people will be included in the Census. While it’s mandatory we also strongly encourage you to complete the Census honestly. **If there is any reason why you could not answer honestly please contact the Census Contact Centre on 1800 181 227, they can provide you with your own reference and online form.**

The main change is: The introduction of a new topic “Sexual orientation and gender for people aged 16 years and over”. There has always been a question on s*x; This has been updated to include “s*x recorded at birth”.

See the shared post from Equality Australia for bite sized info on how and what has changed.

The Census is generally one survey per household, If there is any reason why you would not feel safe to answer honestly or at all please contact the Census Contact Centre on 1800 181 227. They can give you a Census number to complete your Census online.

The Census is used to form all sorts of decisions from what is included in government budgets, grants and funding opportunities, to the types of services that the community & general public require and where. These changes will also help provide a clearer picture of Australia's LGBTQIASB+ population.

We urge you answer this honestly as this information will be used for support planning, policy development, resource allocation, health and community services.

For more information about the Census please see the link in comments. If you have seen somewhere else providing some great information on this please tag or drop the link below for the community. *We do some more in-depth info on email if you would like to PM us your email we can send that to you as well.**
