The NASA Space Apps Challenge is landing on the Gold Coast this November - and you’re invited to come along for the ride. 🌏🛰️

Across one action-packed weekend, teams around the world will use real data from NASA and its space agency partners to tackle real-world challenges, dream up bold ideas and build solutions with global potential.

How fortunate we are to have a facility like this to streamline rapid responses in our city. The Gold Coast Disaster and Emergency Management Centre is home to an incredible array of talented folk from City of Gold Coast, Qld SES, Queensland Police Service, ABC News and more - all focused on keeping us safe before, during, and following extreme weather events and other challenging situations.

A big thanks to Courtney Mulder for welcoming our delegation from Southern Cross University, the Gold Coast Innovation Hub, and a few category winners from the recent Gold Coast Open Data Challenge.

Innovators, it's worth connecting with Courtney to explore how we can help the city to further enhance its disaster resilience capabilities going forward. 💡

Why do some customers say "yes" straight away, while others hesitate... or disappear completely?

That’s exactly what we'll be exploring at our next Brunch Like A Boss on Tuesday 15 September, with business consultant and sales strategist Holly Spillane.

Holly will share her founder story before taking us through a practical *Buyer Journey Mapping* mini-workshop, helping us better understand what customers are thinking, what might be getting in the way of a sale, and how small changes can create a smoother path to conversion.

And, as always, Brunch Like A Boss is about much more than the workshop.

It's a chance to spend a morning surrounded by Gold Coast women in business who are generous with their ideas, their experience and their encouragement. Leadership lessons… with a little wildlife on the side. 🦘

'Twas a great afternoon at Southern Cross University’s "Lessons in Leadership" lunch, hearing from an impressive group of SCU alumni whose careers span diplomacy, community impact, education and healthcare.

One theme that resonated for me was that regardless of how successful someone may appear, they're likely to be feeling some sense of imposter syndrome. A somewhat related idea was that many leaders have been motivated by others telling them they wouldn't be able to achieve something - which drove them to break through that limitation. 💥 It's clear that leadership doesn’t follow one path, and tackling limiting beliefs head-on can be a ripe source of innovation. 💡

Thank you to Emily Williams, Theresa Mitchell, Grant Grierson and Dr Kellie Wren for sharing their experiences so openly, to Evie Wood for opening the afternoon, and Professor David Heilpern for guiding the conversation.

On a sunny day like today, it's also hard to beat The Homestead at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary as a venue. 🐨

A little honesty from us… 👋

We’ve been lucky to have some huge community events lately - July’s Pitch & Pizza and Brunch Like a Boss were our biggest of the year, and they surrounded the incredible Gold Coast Open Data Challenge.

Maybe we’ve given our regulars a little event fatigue 😅 because, for the first time in a long time, we’ve got plenty of room at next week’s Pitch & Pizza.

So we’d love to turn that into an opportunity to welcome some new faces.
