📚 BOOK REVIEW: The Profound Benefits of a Stint in Prison by Andrew Hamilton

Imagine running a successful Sydney pizza shop, getting raided for your "spicy" magic mushroom side hustle, and trading your chef's apron for a maximum-security prison jumpsuit. That is Andrew Hamilton’s life. It is like Orange Is the New Black but packed with Aussie slang, brutal honesty, and laugh-out-loud dark humor. 🍕🍄
This memoir is easily one of the most eye-opening and uniquely hilarious books I have read this year. It turns out hitting absolute rock bottom is a great way to find your true calling—just don’t copy his business model to find yours. 5/5 stars! ⭐

My next read is The Witness by Fleur McDonald — and judging by how quickly it’s flying off the shelves, I’m not the only one keen to dive in! It’s proving incredibly popular at the moment, so I’ll be patiently waiting my turn. Watch this space!

There is still time to make a donation to the Hope in a Suitcase appeal. This CWA initiative provides an essentials pack to children who are forced into crisis situations, having to leave their homes suddenly, often with only the clothes they are wearing. Look for the box pictured below which can be found in the Beaufort Library. All donations of new children’s clothing will be gratefully accepted. This appeal is open until the end of May.

🎫 Yesterday, the ‘My First Job in Beaufort’ event at the Beaufort Community and Resource Centre brought together locals to share memories and stories about their very first jobs in town.
There were plenty of great stories, along with a few surprises about the workplaces and the people connected to them over the years!
🙏 A huge thank you to the amazing team at the Beaufort Historical Society for organising such a wonderful event and helping to celebrate Beaufort’s local history.

Do you remember your first job in Beaufort? We’d love to hear your story.🏚️

Join the Beaufort Historical Society for a special panel discussion at the Beaufort Community Resource Centre.

This session invites older members of the community to share their experiences of working in Beaufort in their younger years.

A well-known local will open the discussion with stories from his own past, encouraging others to reflect on and share memories of trades, workplaces, and roles that have since disappeared or changed over time.

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, revisit local history, and celebrate Beaufort’s working past. 📸 Includes a display of historical photographs and newspapers.
