BPS60 Advocacy group has been lobbying the council to consider a central shire presence within the new community hub on the former Beaufort Primary School site. It would open up possibilities for the shire and community to work more closely together. It would provide an anchor for community stakeholder groups to build around, with confidence in the initial viability of the hub.
The financial viability of the hub is of major importance, for which BPS60 is developing several business ideas. We understand the council has a financial responsibility to the community. The project must be self-sustaining and not impose undue financial burden on the shire.
At a council meeting on 18th August 2025, the council agreed to a recommendation put by Councillor Ferrari to take control, in principle, through ownership or other negotiated means, of the former Beaufort Primary School site and facility through negotiations with the State Government. The council agreed that the site must be fully refurbished and in suitable condition to be used by the community before management handover, or receive state government funding for full refurbishment.
