Today one of our greatest supporters was laid to rest.
Jean Butler is the mother of our founder Graham.

In 2007 Jean and her husband Ron joined Graham as members of the Lions Club of Pakenham and as volunteers for the Need for Feed project.

Need for Feed was established in 2006 at the height of the Millennium drought, where it was reported at the time that up to 3 farmers per week around Australia were taking their own lives and many others walking off the land.

Jean had never forgotten her connection to farming and had a great empathy for what the farmers were going through, circumstances which were beyond their control.

Jean served as President of the Lions Club for 2009/10 and 2010/11.

In 2009 after the Black Saturday fires happened and in the subsequent years up to 2015, Jean and Ron were personally responsible for fundraising many tens of thousands of dollars. They worked tirelessly for the community and to help make the world a better place.
They continued to give their moral support up until the time of their passing.

The new hay and silage season is nearly upon us, or is already in full swing in some areas.

If you are like Jim and need to clear out some of last season’s hay to make room for the new lot, if it’s in good condition you can donate it at https://www.needforfeed.org/fodder-donations.html and we’ll arrange to pick it up.

We have farmers in need who would appreciate whatever you can spare.

Jim donated 3 B double loads of rye and clover hay.

On our hay run to northern New South Wales over Father’s Day weekend we took 18 trucks carrying over 800 bales and provided some relief to 36 farming families from the relentless effects of the drought.

They have been facing very dryconditions for over 12 months now, the normal summer rainfall never happened and despite some decent rain back in May things have gone backwards in the last few months.
It’s been both warm and windy recently and the conditions of what little grass there is fast deteriorating.

On our hay run over Father’s Day weekend we had 2 fathers with sons and daughters as passengers and also 2 father and son teams both driving their own trucks.
The rest of our Dad drivers had the blessing of their families to be off for the weekend making a difference in the lives of others.
A very special time for all ❤️
