A pleasant surprise this week when the good people from Beaconsfield Upper dropped in with some much-needed supplies for the community pantry.

Thank you very much. Your generosity helped warm an otherwise cold and bleak few winter days.

A fantastic day at LLP this Tuesday. Finding Freedom was the focus of Refugee Week, with emphasis on diversity in community to highlight the vital role community plays in all our lives.

The journey towards freedom represents the challenging path that many refugees take, escaping oppression and uncertainty for safety in a new place. In these new spaces, community is more than just a physical place or a group of people; community is a lifeline.

We celebrated with a range of performances, including traditional dance and African drumming, and our EAL students sang a warm rendition of “I Am Australian”.

We learned about the stories behind traditional costumes and took inspiration from hearing about students’ personal journeys.

Once again we were treated to a lovely lunch catered by Gurdwara Siri Guru Nanak Darbar Officer

Volunteers really are the lifeblood of our centre at Living & Learning Pakenham. We could not do as much as we do without the dedicated crew of people that front up every week and lend their skills, time and passion to our community.

If you have a few spare hours each week and would like to help support our English language students to improve their English skills, we would love to hear from you for our classroom assistants roles.

The amazing team at Burke and Beyond have been working so hard to make this podcast in the style of storytelling, we call it the Midnight Train. It takes a lot of recording, searching for sound effects and a lot of editing.

The narration is by our wonderful Jo. Big shout out to her.

It is a horror story about some friends at Pakenham railway station waiting for the train, but everything goes wrong. It was a complete nightmare, we experienced some creepy stuff along the way, but we learned that together we can face any challenge.
