🐾💕 PHOENIX UPDATE — OUR LITTLE LIVE WIRE! 💕🐾
Remember Phoenix, our beautiful little Kelpie pup who came into AWDRI's care from a regional NSW pound with a terribly broken left femur?
Well, we have some wonderful news! ❤️
Phoenix's surgery was a success, and this gorgeous little girl is absolutely thriving!
Just take a look at her latest X-rays! 😳 The amount of metalwork holding that tiny leg together is extraordinary. Plates and screws were needed to repair her badly fractured femur, and we're delighted to report that her recovery is progressing beautifully.
There's just one small problem…
Nobody told Phoenix she's supposed to be resting! 🤣
Apparently, our little patient has decided that crate rest is entirely optional, and she's far too busy being a Kelpie puppy to worry about doctor's orders!
In fact, she's such a live wire that she's needed a little extra medication to help settle her down and stop her from trying to bounce her way through recovery! 😂
Her wonderful foster family reports that in just over two weeks:
🐾 She's gained an impressive 3 kg and is looking healthy and fabulous!
🐾 Her fractured leg is healing well, with no complications reported.
🐾 She's regaining excellent movement and flexibility, thanks to her dedicated foster family performing physiotherapy 4–6 times every day!
🐾 She's already got all the bigger dogs completely bluffed! They give her puppy pen a very wide berth because she loves charging along the fence to give them a fright! 🤣
🐾 And despite everything she's been through, she's an absolutely delightful, affectionate, cheeky little girl with personality to spare.
Phoenix is a Kelpie through and through! ❤️
Her final X-rays are scheduled for 30 October, and if all goes well, she'll be ready to head off to her forever home after that.
Her foster family believes she's going to make someone an absolute cracker of a dog. With her intelligence, energy and enthusiasm, she could be a wonderful farm companion or, once fully grown and medically cleared, a fantastic candidate for agility or other dog sports.
❤️ NOW, ABOUT THAT VET BILL… ❤️
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, we've raised approximately $5,600 towards Phoenix's surgery and veterinary care.
That's an incredible effort, and we're so grateful to everyone who has donated or shared her story.
But with her veterinary expenses approaching $10,000, we're still around $4,400 short of covering her costs.
We couldn't turn our backs on a three-month-old puppy with such a serious injury. She deserved every chance at a happy, healthy life, and thanks to her veterinary team and foster family, she's getting exactly that.
Could you spare another $5 to help us finish what we started?

A huge thank you to Phoenix's wonderful foster family for their extraordinary dedication, patience, physiotherapy sessions and willingness to be bossed around by one very determined little Kelpie! 😂❤️
Phoenix might have a leg full of metal, but she certainly hasn't lost any of her sparkle! ✨
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us give this beautiful girl the future she deserves. 💕🐾
