Queensland is preparing to welcome its 28th Governor.
His Majesty the King has approved the Honourable Justice Thomas Bradley’s appointment as Governor of Queensland, succeeding Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM.
Justice Bradley has served as a Supreme Court Judge since 2018 and was elevated to the Court of Appeal in March 2025.
As The King’s representative in Queensland, the Governor has an important constitutional role in our system of government. The Governor remains non-political, with responsibilities including granting Royal Assent to Bills passed by Parliament, presiding over the Executive Council and helping ensure Queensland has stable government.
This appointment marks a new chapter for an office that has been part of Queensland’s system of government since 1859.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM as she concludes her term as Queensland’s 27th Governor.

Queenslanders will always remember Dr Young’s dedicated service as Queensland’s Chief Health Officer during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she worked tirelessly to protect our community. Her kindness, strength and compassion have made a lasting impact on our state.

Thank you to Dr Young and her husband, Professor Graeme Nimmo, for their service to Queensland, and we wish them both all the very best for the future.

On 6 October, Deputy Consul-General Iwamori attended an announcement of qualifying nations and trophy reveal event for the 2027 Women's Softball World Cup at Kayo Stadium. Australia is one of the host nations for the 2027 World Cup, so we are looking forward to seeing Japan compete in the finals in April next year in Redcliffe. We thank the organisers of this event for the invitation and for continuing to build sporting connections between Australia and Japan.
