National Reconciliation Week begins today and runs from 27 May to 3 June each year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey, the successful 1967 referendum, and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision respectively. https://www.reconciliation.org.au/
Anglesea Community House would like to honour this week by strengthening our efforts toward truth telling, cultural learning, and the support of pathways to a more just and reconciled future. We also take this moment to celebrate and acknowledge the enduring contribution of our First Peoples to community, culture, and Country.
This Sunday, 31 May, Surf Coast for Reconciliation presents Art on Country here on Wadawurrung Country at the Anglesea Community House, 3β5pm.
We are honoured that Corrina Eccles, a proud Wadawurrung woman and Traditional Owner, will open the event with a Welcome to Country.
Youβll then have the opportunity to hear from:
β’ Alisha Fagan, WarriBagurrk (Ocean Woman), and proud Wadawurrung woman based in Naarm (Melbourne)
β’ Joshua James, a proud Noongar Wardandi man from Noongar Wardandi Gnaala Karla Boodja, (Western Australia)
β’ Teagan Malcolm, a proud Kamilaroi woman, who grew up on Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung Country
Each will share how their art is inspired by Country.
All are welcome to come together, listen, learn, and celebrate culture.
