THROWBACK THURSDAY!

Released in 1980, “Turn Me Loose” by Loverboy became the breakthrough hit that launched the band onto the international stage. A rehearsal night filled with congratulations, celebrations and wonderful achievements as we welcomed home many of our members from the Sweet Adelines Convention in Hobart!

Huge congratulations to our very own Kazza, named Sweet Adeline of the Year, and to Deb who received her certificate recognizing an incredible 20 years of membership.

We also celebrated our fabulous quartet Misdirection Quartet on their outstanding success, and our amazing Glen Windle, who took home the Novice Director Award with her own chorus, Brisbane City Sounds Chorus — with several of our Redland Rhapsody members proudly joining them on stage!

THROWBACK THURSDAY!

Released in 1981 and exploding in popularity through 1982, “867-5309/Jenny” by Tommy Tutone became one of the most unforgettable pop-rock songs of the decade. Built around its instantly recognisable phone number chorus, the song captured the carefree energy of the early MTV era with catchy guitars, upbeat hooks and a story about a mysterious girl named Jenny whose number was found written on a wall.

The song became such a cultural phenomenon that people across North America actually started calling 867-5309 asking for “Jenny”, turning the track into one of the most famous one-hit wonders of all time. More than 40 years later, the moment that chorus starts, it still brings back pure 1980s nostalgia.
