We love seeing opportunities like this that bring people together in ways that feel welcoming and practical.

Deadly Yarns by Upskill Global PTY LTD is creating space for Aboriginal community members, employers, and local services to come together for a yarn and build connections around employment and support. Better yet, it’s free to attend, and you’ll get to enjoy a free lunch while you’re there.

If this could be useful for you or someone you support, take a look at the post below. 👇

🌿 Deadly Yarns is coming to South Australia 🌿

We're proud to be bringing Deadly Yarns to Christie Downs Community Centre on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, 12:00–3:00pm.

This free community event is all about connection — between local Aboriginal community members, employers, and the services that support real pathways into work.

Come along for a feed, a yarn, and the chance to:
🤝 Chat directly with employers who are hiring
📚 Learn about training and study options
🏠 Connect with health, housing, and legal support services
👥 Spend time with community

At Upskill Global, events like Deadly Yarns reflect what we believe: that sustainable employment outcomes start with genuine relationships, not just job listings. When employers show up and listen, and when community has a safe space to ask questions and explore opportunities, everyone benefits — the individual, the employer, and the broader community.

Free entry. Free lunch. All welcome.
📍 Christie Downs Community Centre, Cnr Flaxmill & Morton Rd, Christie Downs SA

Marking International Overdose Awareness Day 💜

Staff from our In-Home Withdrawal Service West and Partners Towards Wellbeing teams attended the Northern Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA) morning tea to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.

It was a great chance to connect with colleagues from across the sector, share knowledge, and recognise the important work happening across our community to prevent overdose and save lives.

Staff also received take-home naloxone for use in the community, along with a refresher on how to administer it - naloxone is a medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and help save a life.

A big thank you to the Northern DASSA team for hosting the morning tea and helping keep overdose awareness and harm reduction front of mind. 💜

When 18-year-old Mekhi first connected with headspace Work & Study, his goal was to find his first job.

With support from his Employment Specialist and Mental Health Clinician, Mekhi built the practical skills and confidence he needed to enter the workforce – and that first job helped him discover what he was capable of.

A year later, Mekhi returned with a new goal: work out what he wanted to do for his future.

With support to explore his strengths and interests, Mekhi discovered a passion for construction, completed a Certificate II in Construction Pathways, and is now working towards an apprenticeship! 🏗️

Mekhi’s story is a reminder that finding your first job doesn’t have to be the destination. Sometimes, it gives you the confidence to discover for your next step. 💚

25 years on. Still needed. 💜

This International Overdose Awareness Day (31 August), we remember the people whose lives have been lost to overdose, and stand alongside the loved ones and communities affected.

Overdose can affect anyone, and while the impact can be devastating, there is also hope: overdose is preventable, and there are things we can do to reduce harm and save lives. Education, support, compassionate care, and life-saving interventions all have a role to play.

At Sonder, we’ll be wearing purple on the day to show our support and help keep overdose awareness and prevention part of the conversation.

💜 Wear purple with us.
💜 Talk openly.
💜 Learn what can help.
💜 Help reduce stigma.

Because while this day is still needed, we can work towards a future where fewer lives are lost.
