“Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha Hospice” provides in-home and in-community clinical, practical, emotional and spiritual care to those facing life limiting illnesses. Jan McGregor and India Wallace are Co-Directors of “Pure Land Home Hospice” and their aim is to provide holistic care to people who are dying and to their families. We are a Buddhist based organisation and the service will be free. We w
ill provide general palliative care from the time a person is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness until their death, and includes bereavement care for their loved ones after the person has died. The compassionate care encompasses nursing, psychosocial and spiritual support, optimising quality of life and focussing on living well. This care will be delivered with respect for individual choice encompassing acceptance of each person’s spiritual tradition, faith or lack of faith. Our staff and volunteers will be trained to undertake their roles with professionalism, patience and kindness. We expect to work collaboratively with other services, e.g. allied health professionals and specialist palliative care services. Currently in set-up stage, we are now beginning to gather and train volunteers who have enthusiastically and passionately embraced this service. Initially we will limit our operations to a geographic area surrounding the eastern end of Magill Road but as we become established, we will extend this area. We expect initial referrals to come to us as self-referrals and from local GPs. As we establish and later extend the home hospice, we expect referrals to come also from hospital discharge planners and specialist palliative care services.
